AOS Medical Exam/Civil Surgeon question

Hello VJers,

While I have not yet entered the US on my K-1, I will be doing so in two weeks. We will be married one week after my entry into the US; as such, I am trying to get all the AOS paperwork filled out ahead of time so once we have a certified copy of our marriage certificate, we can get the package off in the mail.

I noticed on the Adjustment of Status 'guide' on VJ, it says we do not need to have another medical exam, so as long as we file within one year from the original medical for the immigrant. However, the guide says the following:

"If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. Regardless of if you are exempt from a medical exam, you are still required to complete certain portions of the I-693 and have a Civil Surgeon certify the form (and seal it in an evelope). Specifically, you will complete Part 1 (Information about you) of the I-693 and provide both the form and your DS-3025 (if you have it, proving your vaccination history) and any proof of required vaccinations that were completed prior to entering the US."

So, my question is: do we have to find a civil surgeon to take our medical results to, as well as a portion of the I-693, and proof of vaccinations?

It seems to be indicating that, but the whole thing seems redundant because of all the requirements for the medical overseas prior to the interview -- they had to have proof of vaccinations and the medical is already in a sealed envelope!

I dislike that part of the guide. If you have all the required vaccinations at your K-1 medical and they are marked off correctly on a properly filled out DS-3025, then you typically do not have to see a civil surgeon for an I-693. Send a copy of the DS-3025 and staple a copy of page 4 with 7c highlighted from the I-485 instructions and you should have no issues. Many examiners are not up to date on these instructions.
