It finally happened! We got married in Boston on the 13th, got our marriage certificate on the 14th (Got multiple copies so we each have one and have one to send off to USCIS) and now my wife and I are filling out forms.

We had such a disorganized ceremony, but it all turned out okay. A friend of ours married us at a table in a chocolatier over hot chocolate. We had intended to marry in a park, but the 13th dawned 'really freaking cold' and my wife is from the south, so going outside was not high on the agenda. Our vows were hilarious because we're both giant nerds (we got video) and then I managed to put her ring on the wrong finger, but we did it! And of course forgot to get pictures of the ceremony (eloping without family and our only close friend in Boston was doing the ceremony!), but when we filed the completed license, the lovely gentleman at the counter where you register took a photo of us with both the correctly filled out license and the one where our friend made a minor error. We're pretty happy with everything.

And now it's form time. Eep!

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

It was very 'us'. I wish friends could have been with us, but Toronto has been REALLY REALLY RIDICULOUSLY cold and we wanted to combine ceremony and honeymoon. Texas, sadly, wouldn't have allowed us to marry anyway.

Our vows included me promising not to become a supervillain or superhero, her promising to be easier to get moving in the morning and me not eating any of her specimens (she's a biologist). We're not big on public displays of affections, so we ended up spontaneously high fiving at the end instead.

Congrats! Your story makes me smile. :) Super cute!!

We kinda did the elope thing too - and yeah, totally spaced out on getting lots of pics. The service we used took a couple for us - but yeah. Even though we both take a lot of pictures, when we are together we don't. Too busy hanging out haha. In our application we had a few pics from all the trips visiting each other and stuff and we didn't have any problems. Good thinking on getting the clerk to take a pic.

2/20/2013 I-130 NOA1 via text and email with an MSC receipt number
10/16/2013 I-130 NOA2 via text and email...APPROVED at MSC!!!
10/22/2013 I-130 NOA2 hard copy received in the mail
11/7/2013 NVC sent emails with case number.
11/7/2013 Received DS-3032 / I-864 Bill
11/11/2013 Paid I-184 Bill
11/18/2013 Paid IV Application Processing Fees
03/03/2014 DS-260 was submitted online
03/03/2014 Submitted supporting documentation for I-864 and DS-260 (IV Package and AOS supporting documentation)
03/19/2014 Received receipt e-mails stating the documents for both I-864 and DS-260 had been attached to the case. Stated to wait up to 20 business days for processing
03/26/2014 Received a checklist regarding the birth certificate. This was previously provided in an email. Investigating what was wrong with the birth certificate.
03/26/2014 Called the NVC and was told this was likely because we accidentally submitted a "short form" birth certificate rather than a "long form", but we knew that wasn't the case.
03/26/2014 Wife called back to NVC and they told her that it was because the form was "too decorative". The lady on the phone told her to wait 25 days as she'll forward it to a supervisor.
04/04/2014 Email received with a CASE COMPLETE notification and P4 interview letter.
05/21/2014 Scheduled Interview Date.
5/21/2014 VISA APPROVED!!!!
07/04/2014 Sent renewed passport to Montreal consulate for visa placement due to old passport expiring.
07/18/2014 Visa status set to "Issued" on CEAC website.
09/29/2014 Entry to the United States.

09/12/2016 I-751 Filed to California Service Center
09/16/2016 I-751 NOA1 Recieved, Green Card Extended 1 Year
10/13/2016 Biometrics screening completed
