My wife was approved and her visa will be issued in next few days. We are planning to get her to USA in April.

My question is that whether she will be able to work after her POE or would she have to wait till she gets the physical green card? She already has an SSN from her stay her on a H1B visa.

She can use the stamp in her passport as that is a temporary GC. She may have trouble convincing some HR person that this is indeed the same as an the plastic GC as both are the I-551.

Good luck,

Dave

The I-551 stamp in her passport is her temporary green card valid for 1 year after entry. The stamp is listed on the I-9 as an acceptable document for employment.

Another poster reported recently that an employer would not accept the stamp and wanted the physical card. We never heard back from the poster after he was advised that it was against the law for the employer to refuse to accept the stamp.

Read the I-9. You will see the stamp is acceptable for employment.
