Hi all,

Quick question, when can you fill out and submit your ds-160 form? We just received our NOA2 last week, but nothing from NVC yet (it's only been 5/6 days). When am I able to fill out the ds-160 form? Do I need to wait for a letter from the NVC?

Secondly, is that the number (applicant number on ds-160 form) I can use to book my medical? Or is it something else? When can I book my medical? (Applying through London embassy)

Sorry if I missed something, I did do some searching but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for your help.

the NVC will forward your package to the embassy, then the embassy will schedule an appointment with you. they'll give you enough time to put everything together, so no need to rush.

Secondly, is that the number (applicant number on ds-160 form) I can use to book my medical?

you can only use your "case number" to do medicals

we were told that our case was shipped to the nvc 2 weeks ago, but we do not have a case no. I will not wait until the embassy mails me requesting the packet 3 material, I will go ahead and fill out the ds in about 2 weeks, as well as go for the medical, and hope for an earlier interviewdate.

this is simply a decision i made after reading up on the whole process and various experiences on here.

best of luck to you!

So how did you book a medical without a case number? And also how did you fill out the ds form without a case number?

Thanks. And best of luck to you too.

I have not booked the medical (fortunately you can go to the doctors office in frankfurt within a certain time frame and without an appt.). the case no. will be issued by the nvc (hopefully soon), will call them on monday to ask for it, but it can take up to 8 weeks they will tell me if they do not have the file scanned yet.

so as soon as you have the nvc case no you are golden, with it you can track your package to the consulate, and fill out everything, even if it hasn't arrived in the embassy yet. but everyone should draw their own conclusions, thats just what hopefully will work for us, as we are also in a bit of a time crunch and I do not want to waste time, but have everything ready to send back within the same day.

Some applicants use a case number to completed DS-160 but some other said, an applicant from the Philippines, wrote that she completed her DS- 160 form by putting her receipt number for her petition since she did not have it yet when filled out the form. She did not encounter any problem at all.

As myself, I used my case number to filled out DS-160 form as well as booked my medical examination. So it depends. You can go directly to the US embassy appointed doctors and ask if you can book your medical earlier without the case number. But, my advise is, wait until you finally have your case number. If you're done the medical too earlier, your expiration visa date will tied up to your medical result date as people had experience with it though mine was actually dated from when my visa was issued not from my medical result for expiration date . Good luck!

You can do the DS-160 and just not submit it until you're ready. It saves for 30 days. I did a practice one a few months before the actual interview so we'd know what kind of information to look up (schools, employers, father's address, etc) and have it ready. When we did the "real" DS-160, it was super quick.

April 27, 2016: I-751 mailed

May 2: I-751 received

May ??? NOA1

May 12: Check cashed

May 31: Biometrics appointment scheduled

June 1: Biometrics appointment letter arrives!

June 2: Biometrics walk-in

I'm puzzled by some of the answers here. On my letter from the NVC, it specifically states that they have sent the petition to the Embassy, that the Embassy will contact the fiancee when they are ready to process the petition, and IN THE MEANTIME, the fiance should complete the DS160 to apply for a Visa. It does NOT say to wait for a letter from the Embassy!

Thanks for your help.

You can book your medical when you get a reference number it starts with LDN (london). The medical send the relevant documents to London, normally three days later, dependant on whether its a weekend or not. You can fill out your DS -160 form when you want to, I waited until after I passed the medical, then you fill in a readiness form to say you have it all together and are ready for an interview and then London will contact you with a date. Once London gives you a date you can then pay your MRV fees online.

Removal of Conditions..  TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK
