We have been married now for almost 8 years. Our marriage is going good. How hard is it for you leaving your family behind to marry your spouse. Do you miss them? How often do you go back to see them? Been here for almost 8 years and I am missing my family only went back 6 years ago to see them. I try to talk to them but, they don't understand that money is not growing on trees over here. How do you explain to your family about your life in the USA?

Any help,

Would be most appreciated

J

They are not interested in visiting?

I can relate to this, My husband and i have been married 4 years and together for 6, Together we have traveled together to India and he went alone this past year, It to darn expensive to visit the plane ticket alone and also all the gifts we take for our nieces and nephews.. its adds up to be a lot of money.

Aside from that we also send cash for my husbands parents. Sometimes i don't think they understand we have bills here, we cant keep taking money out of savings to send to them.

My husband knows this too, he works hard for what we have, But than i sit back and think we dont do Christmas presents or birthday presents and go out to eat with them as much as we go out with my family and friends, so i do justify sending some cash but not all the time.

Next step however we want to apple for them to visit us here.

Good luck :)

I suspect it also has to do with the culture of the foreign spouse's country as well. I have many Indian friends and they work themselves to the bone, never take a vacation day, all so they can save up their vacation and then take an expensive month long trip back home. They bring all kinds of gifts and things along with them when they go. Sometimes its hard to do since their jobs don't want them to be away for a month at a time during a critical project at work. I do know that in some cases their family members have had trouble obtaining travel visas to the US or the parents are older and in ill health so travel for them is difficult.

Even in my case where I am just a 9 hour drive/ 1.5 hr flight away from home.....I find myself resenting that my Canadian family seems to be under the impression that I should take all my vacations back home. I love to visit as much as I can but I don't have a lot of real 'time off' since I feel obligated to go back home and visit everyone. I'd liek for my relatives to take a vacation down here occasionally but I guess I was the one who made this decision to have this adventure. When my parentsa re no longer around I won;t likely travel back nearly as much.
