Permanent Resident Won't pay For His Child's Green Card

The problem with calling child services is they will only be involved with this particular child until he turns 18. Unless he is found to be mentally deficient when he turns 18 the court will have no authority over him. If we are speaking of only this child there is not much left to do as far as reporting the abuse that will help him. If you want to create problems for the parents and the other siblings or you feel they are being abused then by all means make the report.

The child (almost adult) can walk out the door of the house anytime beginning on his 18th birthday and there is nothing the parents can legally do. If they refuse to allow him to leave then the police can be called and the parents criminally charged. As far as what can the child do? He can remain in the father's home, he can move out and get his own place or live with someone or live in a shelter or live on the streets. He cannot file to become a PR himself unless he wishes to pursue a VAWA claim. He can leave the US or he can remain.

He could move in with the OP.

I can not say I am that familiar with the US system but what type of school is being thought about?

Find a local woman's protective group (in reality they are gender neutral) and let them council the fellow on filing a VAWA claim. Not allowing a child to go to school, in essence locking him up fits quite neatly into the form of abuse that VAWA is good for. They'll help him self-petition and all fees will be waived. Best that he do this before he's 18.

As far as ADD and school, well, I never went to high school, though for some odd reason they gave me a social pass, even though I did not attend 5 of 8 months of my senior year. HS bored the ####### out of me, why? ADD. Later when I was ready I went to college and caught up achieved a BS, then achieved a second BS then achieved another degree--so much for ADD being an impediment. Often if a child/adult finds the challenge stimulation that does focus them--they act like a rocket.

in this case I'd be more worried about social skills or the lack thereof. The turn at 18 can complicate things. Sounds like quite a mess.

As far as that case where the daughter sued the parents.... deliver me! What utter #######.

Were you illiterate at 18?

Doing nothing? I'm asking for advice aren't I! I wanted to ask before I do go ahead and report him!

And maybe you haven't had bad experience with your child being labeled ADD, but I have first-hand experience (via friends' children who've reached out to me), and I know that meds ARE indeed overly distributed. I'm worried about his total future, not just what's happening to him today. I have to look at the big picture.

So, that's why I'm asking. Can he just apply himself? Give me some options here. I am really asking for help.

Ok. You are recommending he do it. I really want him to do well and I'm worried about that. But that's what you recommend with certainty? Can he apply by himself? The alternative (home) is honestly no better and I think he can get a better education and do better here. But he needs the help.

I'm saying if it's as serious as you're explaining - like a domestic prisoner situation, then it's serious enough that authorities will help.

If the kid is really illiterate, then he can't work or live in the real world. I can't think of a job you can hold that you don;t even have to read (even a janitor has to read labels on cleaners). And he certainly can't go to college (would not be accepted to an institution). As a UK citizen, he is entitled to UK benefits and hopefully there are programs to help get him on his feet. I feel for the kid, but staying here illegally, he can't get welfare, and it seems like he can't do anything.

Hopefully the authorities will be able to help him get out of that situation immediately and eventually get him back home. There is no uncle, grandparent, anyone to help in the UK? Can't he turn his mom in for drugs and get her help?

My knowledge of the UK intervention stems from a peep show episode where they section someone, so obviously not sure how intervention works.

I hope every thing going well for him, I am really sad and worry about him.

Three ways to fix the problem

1- call police report abuse and ...... make problem for his parents, and help him.

or

2- find a lawyer for the child abuse and his immigration.

fix all his problems. make a little problem for the stupid parents.

or

3- If you are one of his parents just find a immigrate lawyer so fast. don't waste time more it,

Those days are well gone, near where I went to School there was a major Mental Hospital, long gone and redeveloped for housing,

Care in the Community replaced it.

Anyway nothing to suggest he is mentally challenged, just by the sound of it slow, quite possibly a consequence of drug addled mother. Also interestingly a reason why people want to adopt form abroad.

But your basic premise is correct, there will be much more support available in the UK.

Not sectioning for him, smile.png help to get the mom in rehab, by some sort of force or intervention. Drug addicts are similar to mental health patients in that they need outside intervention usually to get better. I am sure his whole family would be better off if she were clean.

In addition to whatever reintegration and literacy help he needs.
