Hello all,

march 24= i-130

june 2=interview

Got the letter for appointment in april bt had to wait so much cos no appointments were available.

My interview was at 11:00 so reached there about 10:45 and were let in after some wait in the queu and submitting phones with the guards. My wife (USC) had come with me. After security, we were told to go separate section for immigrant visa. there we sat near some windows where all indian staff was working. That area had lil cool air and was getting little hot.

There they checked our paper and did something with something. They cudnt find my profile i guess so that why the lady went and called her supervisor few times. After they confirmed everything they gave me domestic violence paper and told me to read as CO will ask questions about it. She just asked for one question about where iam working apart from usual paperwork.

Then i went and sat in front of the windows where actual interviews were being taken. There were only 2 COs at that time. I was in 7-8 in line bt i guess i got called out in 5 minutes because my interview was in English.

I went and put all my paperwork along with two albums in front of him. He started with good morning and how are you. he asked

1. When did u meet

2. Was it love

3. Did anyone from her family came to the wedding

4. Did u go meet ur father in law after wedding

5. When did u go US and when u came back ( student visa). he had many questions about my trip to US.

HE got confirmed when he saw very big album and he made me point out her mother.

Then he went on asked me many dates to confirm the info like my work exp in US. when did i go, when did i leave my first job, second job. They had every information and i wud advise everybody to speak only truth. They usually ask and confirm unless there is some red flag. After all this conversation he gave me two pieces of paper and said we wiil message you once ur passport is ready to pick up.

Now all set for POE.

POE experience:

POE @ Chicago mid-May.

1:50 PM - Arrived. Not a very big line. Went to US Permanent Residents line. CBP officer asked for Brown Envelope (MBE).

1:55 PM - CBP officer wrote "ODIT" on our Customs declaration form, and told us to give it to the Customs guys after picking up bags.

2:00 PM - Picked up bags and proceeded to exit. Customs guy saw that the form has ODIT on it and told us to go to a Red Channel customs area.

2:05 PM - Customs guy at Red Channel took the form, passport and rest of MBE papers.

--Waiting---

2:15 PM: Took fingerprints and asked to sign on a document that said that rights and responsibilities have been read and explained. Said you will get the Green Card in the mail, and remember to get the conditions lifted before 2 years are up.

2:20 PM: Bags scanned, Cleared Customs, entered USA.

* Remember to carry MBE in HAND luggage.

* The X-Ray from Medical was not asked for by any of the guys at POE. We didn't even take it out of the bag.

After a week we went to Social Security office to apply for SSN. Got SS Card in the mail 10 days after that. Now just waiting for Green Card to arrive in mail.

GoChicago, How was the experience finding job in US from India ? Your inputs will be appreciated.

Well, I was a student so it may be different for you. I applied for mostly new-grad roles, however, I applied using my US address and phone number. When recruiters called or emailed, I later explained that I was temporarily in India and would be moving to the US. This worked well and I got a few offers. One company even flew me to the US for interviews.

The only difference is that new-grad roles usually are recruited for much in advance compared to other roles. This allowed me to secure the job several months before my move-to-US date.

So, I would say that it's doable. The other thing you can do is apply close to your date of being in the US, so that they can do a couple of phone interviews and then do the on-sites once you are in the country.

Best Luck!

@ gochicago

Hi,

Thank you so much for the information regarding your visa journey. My husband and I have been following your posts since long and it has helped us greatly. I am a US citizen residing in India for the last 2 years with an OCI. I am a medical student currently doing internship. Last week my husband and I went to Delhi to file his petition and things went pretty smoothly. We are now waiting for the Mumbai consulate to contact us. In the mean time we decided to work on the PCC. My question was that do we both require a PCC or only my husband (who is the beneficiary) requires it?

Only the beneficiary, thank God! Its hard enough getting one, would be crazy if they made you get two!

When I was going through this process there were forum posts all over but no single source which I could use to know about the process from end to end. This topic aims to solve that. I imagine many people read this topic, and I hour that if you found it helpful, you would also post your own experience.

Hello everyone

I have 3 questions

1) I submitted my DS-260 online today so can I go and take the appointment now or do I have to wait for some mail from NVC or USCIS?

2) My wife who is an USC is living in India since last 6 years but now we plan to go back to States and she will be leaving before me so during the interview can it create any issue?

3)Since she will be moving to US now and here in India she was a student so she can't support me financially in US so we got a joint ( secondary sponsor) who is my sister in US so would that work?? I am talking about the AOS here just to avoid any confusion

Thanks in advance

If you are confident that you can get PCC and Medical done in time for the date that you select for the appointment, go ahead. PCC is the main issue, it can require as little as a day or as much as couple months to get, depending on how recently the beneficiary passport was issued, and how long beneficiary has stayed at the current address.

2) My wife who is an USC is living in India since last 6 years but now we plan to go back to States and she will be leaving before me so during the interview can it create any issue?

No, in fact, that actually helps. It is good that the sponsor intends to actually go to US and goes before the beneficiary. Sponsor should never go AFTER the beneficiary, but can always go along with or before.

If you will not live in same house as your sister, it is fine to add her as a secondary sponsor. If you will live in the same house, she needs to be a household sponsor. I am assuming you will live separately from your sister, so more on being a secondary sponsor -- She needs to be USC or GC holder. Also she needs to be able to provide for her family + the 2 of you, at 125% of the US poverty line. So as long as that's fulfilled, you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for answering

I got the PCC when I started the process and also have got the medical 2 days back.. So I was just confused that whether NVC will mail us after 30 business after u submit the DS260 as mentioned on the DS260 confirmation page or I just can just go ahead and take the appointment

My sister earns around 1,30k so does that make above 125% of the powerty line?

Thank you

@ash20

NVC doesn't mail anything. Just print the DS 260 confirmation page and use the confirmation number to book the appointment. Take appointment confirmation and DS 260 confirmation (2 pages) to the interview and fingerprinting.

130k is much more than enough.

Thank you for taking out time in responding

One more query I have.. Do we have to pay only 230$ for DS-260 and 160$ as IV fee or 88$ for AOS also.. And do I have to carry all these at the day of interview or just 230$ ??

2)If I get the DD made in 2-3 days time when the dollar rupee conversion rate is 62 Rs and by the time my interview comes, the exchange rate goes up then what will happen?

@ash20

It's only $230. $160 immigration fee is paid online. AOS fee is only for cases filed in US.

The DD has to be calculated per the consular rate of exchange not the market rate. Consular rate is Rs 62 as of now, try to get the DD in the week before your interview, they don't change the rate very frequently (maybe once a month). Send an email to mumbaiiv@state.gov to confirm.

Thanks again for the prompt reply

So that 160$ is to be paid online that day itself??

And my concern is if I get the DD now till the rate is 62 Rs and then after rate gets increased after 28th June ( chances are very well there to increase due to inflation) then do we have to pay the difference or they will accept this DD as I can say I got it done when the rate was 62??

My interview is in first week of July

Thanks

@Gochicago

So I have my interview in about a week but I have one fear in my mind that since we have all the AOS supporting papers like TAX,IRS,,payment voucher and others asset papers of 2012 and not 2013 since we got these papers in march end from our joint sponsors So they didn't have 2013 tax papers yet So during the interview can it create any problem
