I have filed a federal tax return for each of the three most recent years. I have attached the required photocopy or transcript of my federal tax return for ONLY THE MOST RECENT TAX YEAR!!

so why are ya'll sending 3 years and not just tax year 2013???

There's a more consistent narative if you have several years of data, especially if you are anywhere near the lower threshold of the requirement but have been over it for the last several years. There's also an option checkbox at least on the EZ version stating that you've enclosed additional years of transcripts. People have also gotten requests for the 2013 W2 (since taxes are not yet due) to show that you don't just have a fluke in 2012 and the 2013 tax return. Required? Nope but if you're at 130% of FPL they could very easily request additional years.

Unless you didn't meet qualifications for those years, why not? I'd guess it also helps if you show an increase year to year.
