I-134 Bank Statement Question

I am preparing my bank information for the affidavit of support and the form states that they need 3 things which are: Date account opened, total amount deposited for the past year, and present balance. I was able to get a letter from my branch for date accounts opened and present balance, but they could not give the total amt deposited for the past year and I was told to print out my statements for each month instead. Has anyone dealt with this and are monthly statements enough? My fiancee needs this for his interview and I am concerned that this will not be the documentation they are after.

Hello Suzanne

If your income is above the poverty guideline, then don't worry about the account information. Some people need the sum of their income and assets to reach the minimum level. My income is well about the poverty guideline so I'm not including my account information in the affidavit of support. Also it would add little value because due to my numerous trips to see my fiancee, my balance is not very large anyway LOL. Hope this helps.

I agree that you do not need to present a lot of supplemental information if you earn more than the poverty guidelines. My bank has been very difficult to work with and have not given me the letter I requested for.

I plan on printing out some on-line bank statements.

I'll include my salary, savings balance, life insurance sum, and paystubs.

I have my employer's letter as well and my contract from work.

Even though they state that there should be a total amount deposited in the past year, the lady at the bank told me that they have never done this for anyone. All banks answer the same questions, they know its immigration related. She also stated that people have come back to tell her that even though that wasn't listed, they had no problems. I think you'll be fine without. A couple recent paystubs from your employer are stronger evidence of financial capability.

Thinking back now the bank even stated in the letter IN REFERENCE TO IMMIGRATION OF XYZ so they were very good in my case

The request for bank statements generally refers to self employed individuals. Copies of the bank statements showing deposits is generally acceptable. The government is looking for proof that you actually received the amount of money you claim on your tax returns. With the ability to prepare your own tax returns with software, the chance of showing greater income on a tax return than was actually filed with the IRS is pretty easy.

It's not a big deal unless you don't have enough income. Just make copies of the first page showing the total deposits. It should be a relatively easy task.

I am self employed and don't make much over the requirements so I'm nervouse about it. Hope this doesn't turn into an audit as If they really added my deposits up it wouldn't match my return so well.

I am also working on my I-134 and had the same thing happen to me. The bank representative typed a letter with just the date the account was opened and present balance. She told me to go on-line and download the statements that I need. That is what I did. Basically, I downloaded all statements for the past year and every statement has the total deposits made for that statement date. I totaled them up and wrote a small letter showing the total deposits for the year.
