I know that once my fiance comes to the US on his K1 visa, we will need to get married in the US, but does that include territories: Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Palau? Or can these places be visited while waiting for the AP once filing for AOS after marriage? More just curious, but also trying to learn about what we can and cannot do. thanks in advance!

Aren't some of the countiries you listed independent? Palau? Marshall Islands?

I thought so too, but I got the list off of the US dept of health and human services (while looking for other info), where they were grouped in with Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands.

Are there not enough places to visit in the continental US? Or how about Hawaii? Why would you want to push the envelope by visiting territories anyway? I don't get it.

Some of those places are independent countries with some sort of "association" with the US. Not a part of the US. Be very careful.

You can go to territories, but USVI is difficult from what I understand because it is too easy to walk out of the US part. Puerto Rico is poor.

Hawaii seems like a better option.

Also beware that you can't travel through other countries on the way there and back. Some places it is hard to get direct transportation

Yes, you're welcome to come to Hawaii. If you do you must visit the Island of Maui. It has been voted the best island in the world the past several years. This is where we live. I have lived here since 1967.

I don't expect to actually go to any of these places any time soon (apart from maybe Hawaii). My sister and brother in law have a place on the Big Island); I was just merely brain storming. My future in-laws all live in South Africa. I was thinking of possible options that might make long-distance travel easier on them. I didn't know about the traveling through other countries. Good to know. Thank you all for the replies.
