Hello everyone,

My name is Gent and I am from Kosovo actually living in Italy. I have a degree in political science and I speak for languages. I am also a qualified soccer ( european football ) referee.

I have a cousin ( my aunt's son ) who lives in US for 15 years. He got the US passport and a good work. He is married and has two beautiful doughters. Some days ago he proposed me to go and live there as he would give me his second floor of his house, work with him and sponsore me untill I can go alone by myself. I mean he will do everything for me.

So, I was thinking about this and found out about US sponsored visa and asking you guys what could be the price of applying, what are my chances to get the visa ?

I really appreciate your time.

Thanks.

No visa exists for what you are proposing. So your chances are zero. I'd refactor your plan. But, just in case: What work does he do? What work would you do for him?

So basically, Alba, the US system for visas has two major categories, work, and family. Your cousin is not close enough family, so that route is out.

That leaves work.

We don't have general work visas to come and look for work, the US only has visas to do specific jobs. So the employer needs to make their case that there is no one in the US to do the work, and they need to get a foreign worker. Then they need to pay fees and pass many qualifications (both you and them). The job needs to be vetted by the government, etc. I'm not sure how you'd work for your cousin if he is an architect and you are not.

There are investor visas if you want to start a business and invest half a million dollars into a US company. You could find your own job and get sponsored by a US employer. Or you could try to work at the UN for Kosovo or something. There are paths, but I don't think your cousin will be able to be helpful in this quest. Check out uscis.gov for more information on paths to the US (there is a "through work" tab on the left).

Best of luck to you. (and hello!)

I think your cousin need to do a little bit of a visa research before giving you proposals like that. Your chances are zero - as Harpa wrote - unless he's ready to sponsor you for work, which is no easy task.

Hey Harpa, you have been very helpfull. Thank you.

As I see there are very few chances for me and I have to give up although studying and working in US was and still is my dream. Maybe I could get a studying visa but can't afford the amount of money they ask for.

Anyways, thanks for your tips, Harpa.

Good luck Alba. Check out the Visa lottery linked above as well. That's a possibility that got overlooked.

There is no "cousin sponsoring me so I can look for work in the USA " visa... If there were, there would hundreds upon hundreds of millions of applicants... Student visa is an option, but you have to be accepted for a program of study. Family visa is for fiancé, husband, wife, children, parents, brothers and sisters... Job visas are position specific and specialized jobs... So at this moment, your option is the DV Lottery... Sorry
