I have a very strange question, I did try and do a search on this but nothing came up, when I went to visit my fiancé in England this past September I took my hair straightener with me but I ended up frying it. I'm going back to England in May and I'm worried about taking another straightener with me only to have the same thing happen to it. Has anyone had any luck on which hair straighteners would work in England?

I was under the impression any electronics would work as long as you had a voltage converter since the UK and US use different voltages for their electronics. Can probably find something on ebay or amazon. Or a random electronics store when you're in the UK.

Buy one there, not expensive.

I would recommend the ghd hair straighteners. They're kind of expensive, but they have a voltage converter inside so they work anywhere and they are just sooo good! I've had mine for almost 3 years now and I'm super satisfied :)

My wife just bought a cheap one for the time we were in the UK, she keeps going on about how she can't wait to use her "Chi" straightener again. If you try using a converter it will still fry it unless it has 240 voltages it can hold up to.

I've read that even with the converter, US appliances like hairdryers and curling irons/straighteners are still prone to overheating in Europe. I'd just buy one there. Also I think Conair makes one of those portable ones that use a cartridge instead of plugging in.

Source: I had this dilemma when I was packing for my wedding in Europe last year.

I couldn't use mine in the US. The voltage or whatever it is just not match up. I ended up keep it in the closet.

I bought one in my country that the price was about 100 USD. It was almost 4 years ago and probably is now more cheaper than before. I just hate throw money away by buying a new one.
