My blood wouldn't boil. I'd be concerned about my family's safety. Once that's established, the only way I'd even think about pulling the trigger is if I saw a weapon or that person made a move towards myself or any of them.

Described as written (by you and the news reporter back at post #1)

you and that father did the exact fight or flight triage.

And it was the right triage, as well. A Grand Jury will quickly have the same conclusion, and dismiss the case.

Well, sorta-kinda-maybe.

I blame the kid's parents, who allowed him to be imprinted with an improper belief system, coupled with a very bizarre set of morals and ethics. It really is the parent's fault and problem. Yes, I do mean McCormick.

I don't blame anyone. I hold responsible the adult, who thought it appropriate to shoot an unarmed teenager. That is far more immoral than anything the kid did.

It should be a lesson not to shoot a teen in the house your daughter let in.

But it cannot be. Not for that father. The daughter denounced all knowledge of the boy. The decision matrix has clear paths in this type of situation.

Sure, hindsight is fun, or funner, for us couch spectators, but the facts at the time not support the lesson you'd like to teach.

A coward by any other name...

Hey - come on - not all Texans feel comfortable with stilettos and short swords or rapiers.

He made several mistakes, not only one.

In the end, his final mistake helped along his detriment.

Sorry. I not feel bad for anyone involved at this incident, at all.

You think this is 'bad'? Hey - what about the black father who shot his black lesbian teenage daughter and her black lover this week, south o Houston? Come on....

Actions have consequences. One learns responsibility for one's actions at the hands of both parents, over time. There's a lot of stuff missing in McCormick's environs, so he missed out and thought it ok to sneak in to a girls house.

Lots o moral decay on this one - I'm aggrieved that you are stating the kid's collections of mistakes was not worth his life.

Well, sorta-kinda-maybe.

I'm sorry, but what does color have to do with anything?

Dropping your hands doesn't equate shooting someone.

Like I said, this could have been handled better.

Marvin:

re: color - NOTHING ! That father freaked out cause he learned his daughter was a lebsian so he shot her and her lover. They're dead. I mentioned color on purpose, to show that it doesn't matter.

re: dropping yer hands - apologies - that's the tail end of a tense moment. We can dissect it all day long here, but when one goes against instructions (doesn't matter which ones) on a binary decision tree, there's only one outcome.

re: handled better - I do agree, if'n it only includes the daughter telling the father the proper answer when she was asked. It's sad, really - I feel for that father - here he was, being strict on his daughter, trying to keep her out of the swath of moral decay that she experiences daily at her school, in a strict environment at his home, and she pulls this stuff.

Great example he set, killing an unarmed boy in cold blood right in front of her. One boy dead and his daughter traumatized for life. way to go strict dad.

Yep, he's the anti moral decay poster boy I tell ya. rolleyes.gif

If it didn't matter, why would you bring it up?

Maybe it's because in the military we're taught not to shoot at the slightest movement, I see dropping hands as what they are.

The daughter was at fault for lying. Had she admitted who he was, the kid might have just been kicked out of the house rather than being shot.

nothing to that extent, no.

Why?

My father taught me a sense of morals and ethics when I was YOUNGER. There's a time and place for everything, scads of folk that you've not apparently been exposed to, NEVER go against's Father's Commands.

I not think I am any exception, as a few thousand of my ilk ganged together at a university each semester; so I know these folk do exist.

so, this 'foolishness' of McCormick, IMO/E, could have been prevented by his father teaching him, along the way. McCormick's father chose not to do that, and it shows - in a very violent and bloody fashion.

Uh - I was taught something else, along with thousands of others. Sorry, I'm not going to argue on military training stuff.
