Not odd at all. Do a search on VJ) on people who admitted marijuana use long ago getting denied at interview. It's been a popular subject lately. Its very subjective with certain countries just more strict. No one knows what the CO is writing in the notes either. They may tell you anything and say all is fine and it well maybe but CO has final authority.

That's crazy! So what are you supposed to do? Let one night from college ruin your future? That's so messed up :(

I know very subjective. Look at how much Jamaicans are scrutinized and penalized. Someone just recently in UK admitted to over 10 years ago using pot. 1 year ban.

I know someone there man has been a user for over 20 years and just quit before medical. Doctor said no issue no problem. Now we will see if interview flies. And this is an avid user who said he quit because he is immigrating.

Immigration is wayyyy to subjective they break their own laws and its illegal and we all take it up the tail.ranting33va.gifoops8rh.gif sorry I am mad now.

Op really I am sure you will be fine. Unless they are some how trying to find some backass way to deny you at interview without being discriminatory (you are same sex right). I was just throwing that out there. Weirder things have happened.

Your right one night shouldn't me up your future. I think, this one area that, if nothing ever became of it, meaning you were never accused of, or been caught doing, they don't need to know of. If asked then I would advice not say anything. I'm not advocating everybody to lie, but I think this is one area that they are little to stricted. Why should it matter, if you are truly not using drugs, what you had tried years ago.

I joined the military, as an army MP, I had told the military that had experimented with pot two times, when I was younger. I had to get a waiver to be able to get my security clearance of secret. If I was able to get a waiver for that then one person should not get banned from getting a visa.

What kind of drugs? I could understand that for things like cocaine, but marijuana? I doubt they'd be that strict if it's not still in your system.

US Federal law defines marijuana as an ILLEGAL DRUG. Period.

Just say NO to drugs.

I had my general check-up today. The doctor asked me from one moment to another if I smoked weed and said I had smoked 6 months ago. He asked me if I had smoked before that and I said no. Do you think if that had been an issue, he would have told me. I got my results anyways and he actually said everything was great and even wished me a great journey. Do you think he hadn't given me the results if that had been an issue?

The doc knows what you should have known which is the weed stays in your system about 30 days. If you did this only once it would not have been in your system at the medical. Of course most people tell the same story about usage. The proof is in the testing but there seems to have been no such test.

The doc also knows that the decision you face is made by the C O who reviews the case. He gives the results because that's what he is paid to do.

There have been many cases here on V J where drug use resulted in a denial with associated ban. You may get lucky if the C O buys your story. They have heard the story many times before of course. Lets hope it turns out well for you.

I just used a lamp to look through the medical results envelop without opening it and I could see that the boxes which say CLASS A CONDITIONS and CLASS B CONDITIONS aren't marked, but the box that says NO APPARENT DEFECT, DISEASE OR DISABILITY ***is CHECK***! what does that mean? I could also see the doctor didn't check the boxes that talk about addiction and drug abuse. Do you think I am in good shape based on this information?

You admitted to using drugs recently.

Prepare for a denial.

What do you think about this:"I just used a lamp to look through the medical results envelop without opening it and I could see that the boxes which say CLASS A CONDITIONS and CLASS B CONDITIONS aren't marked, but the box that says NO APPARENT DEFECT, DISEASE OR DISABILITY ***is CHECK***! what does that mean? If the doctor did not put anything, then day don't say anything about it and see how it goes at interview. I mean what other options do you have, no sense in worrying about it now

That doesn't answer my question, sweetie. Read and tell me what that information means.

It doesn't matter what the medical says, it's to late to worry about it. It sounds like you are OK, though. Just go to the interview and just answer, the questions as they come.

That's messed up. But then they go and legalize it in the US. I mean, I get that it's illegal and all, but it's so darn common and I just don't feel like having used it once 10 years ago deserves a denial and ban.

Once when I was crossing the US border, they pulled my bag out and said their dogs smelled marijuana on it (to this day, I can't figure out why). They started searching it and asking questions about my drug use and one of the first things the guy said to me was "Look, we don't care if you have used it in the past, just don't bring it into my country". That made me feel like these past run-ins with drugs wouldn't be so important. O well. Immigration is too subjective! ranting33va.gif

I agree. Way too harsh.

HAHA I was freaking out, man. I've been with my fiance for 6 years and I just couldn't bear the possibility of getting a visa denial for that because I'm no junkie...
