F2A Visa Interview - Approved by CO today, but CEAC says Admistrative Processing

My wife had her interview today at the Mumbai consulate and was verbally approved by the CO. The CO returned all the original documents and said everything looks fine and she should get an SMS to pick up here passport.

This is really exciting for us because we have waited to be together for a long time now.

However, when I checked CEAC it showed that the case was under "Administrative Processing" but the CO never gave my wife any 221(g) forms. Also, I checked the status for some other interviews done today on Mumbai Consulate and their status shows as Issued. Is something wrong with our case here? Also, when I enter the passport on the passport tracking site at usatraveldocs.com it says that "There is no status update available for the passport number submitted"

Can someone please verify if this is normal or do we now have to go through the agony of waiting all over again?

Administrative processing doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong. Preparing to issue the visa (printing and stuff) is also administrative processing. Wait for a couple of days and check again. There are several instances like yours but status changed to issued in hours or days.

errata:

1. all cases go through administrative processing after the interview. When it's finished, CEAC status will change (cause a human changed it) to ISSUED. Expect 1 to 8 days on this.

2. ustraveldocs passport info is specious. Don't rely on it.

3. When CEAC changes to ISSUED, expect another wait, 2 to 12 days, for the visa packet to be compiled, put in the mailroom, and a courier pick it up.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi kdf2a, A quick question, my wife is scheduled for interview tomorrow. How much time will she take before she comes out of the consulate? I know it can vary but just wanted to know how long it took for your case. What would be the best time to reach at the consulate? our interview is at 730 am.

Papaya07, it usually takes between an hour to hour an half to get through the entire process. She will first be taken inside and given a token and then her documents will be checked and verified by an Indian agent after which she will be asked to be seated and then interviewed by an American CO.

Best of luck for the interview and do let us know what happens.
