Please provide source of Colombia being "around 3rd in the world in the quantity of fraudulent documents presented during visa interviews".

The truth cannot be considered 'bashing'....again, blame those who have abused their visas or those who have attempted to obtain visas using fake documents. Apparently you thought it OK to bash our embassy personnel, based on incomplete information. How would you know that our COs are wrong half the time? The only way you could know that is if you personally interviewed all those who were denied and were somehow able to determine their bona fides better than the COs who interviewed them. Since more than 220,000 people apply for visas each year in Colombia, you would have had to interview more than 100,000 people.....annually. That would be a full time job.

Add VWP & ESTAs holders. They're worse offenders, IMO.

And our very same government allows them free passage to come abuse our immigration laws.

And people from mostly poor countries do not get to come and stay now because their applications are very often and frequently denied. It is nearly impossible to get a B1/B2 visa by someone from say Ghana, Nigeria or Afghanistan or even your husband's country of Syria or The West Bank & Gaza.

Every year there are thousands from all over the world who enter on visitor visas and choose to never leave.

I know I can't change anything, but these processes are stupid....it's all based on speculation and they are wrong over half the time....how are people suppose to just throw away money on the application and in this case flights to the embassy and stay in hotel...it's expensive man...uff vent...sorry it's just sad when the good honest hard working ones get denied when they have great evidence...

Unfortuntately cases are judged by the behavior of their countrymen before them.

Let us instead be thankful for that.

If you were a CO in a country in which, through a process called a 'validation study', plus other investigative actions, revealed that the percentage of fraudulent documents presented of a particular culture was more than 40%, or that the abuse rate of tourist visas was near 60%, why in the world would you take at face value any document given to you during an interview? That would not be a wise choice.

Do some bona fide applicants get denied? Sure. Do some mala fide ones get approved. No doubt. Our system is not perfect, but part of the problem is the sad lack of any meaningful enforcement at this end. If we stopped admitting people for 6 months (a ridiculous amount of time for a 'visit'), disallowed any COS or AOS from tourist visas and enforced penalties for violating our immigration laws that could not be waived, then perhaps more people might get a chance to visit. Until that day arrives (which will be never!), COs are the first line of defense, and as a result, they are going to err on the side of denying, since without a visa, it is much more difficult for somebody to then violate our laws.

India is undoubtedly a high fraud location.

There was a TV series on UK TV, here is a you tube link

Makes you wonder how any visa's are issued for some countries, I agree that as long as there are few consequences of the process being abused nothing will change.

ok, im a us citizen, my husband is a perminent resident. He has lived here for 2 1/2 years and we got 10 year visitor visas for both his parents. ok......we helped his 30 year old cousin and his wife apply for visitor visas and they were denied. I dont understand why.....in this case his wife is enrolled in college, he has 3 properties to maintain after his mothers death, and he owns a business (a pharmacy) he has a bachelors in architecture and a huge family at home (no kids).. He has so many reasons to go back as well as her. their paperwork was flawless and they have no criminal or medical background....I dont get it. they only wanted to visit for 2 weeks.

I guess if someone has any input or advice I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Daria

Daria, time to get real, this is because of decades of abuse for the system (US visas) from Colombian people, they only have their countrymen that came before them to blame and yes usually young early 20's to mid 30's.

If you are a USC, apply for their green cards. The main issue facing older folks from India is babysitting during their 6 month 'visit.' For some reason, people forget that child care is work, and work is not allowed when in theUS with a b2 visa. Many keep extending their stay to nearly a year, and during that time, it is not likely they were touring our national parks. They were working (babysitting so their adult children and SIL or DIL can work and not pay for daycare. So their abuse of the tourist visa impacts other applicants..yet most people blame our laws and our COs, which is not accurate. A visa is a privilege, not a right, and our laws were meant to be obeyed (unless you are a politician!)...when a culture exhibits a pattern of visa abuse, well, it should not come as a surprise when others have a tough time being believed.

Get real? because I was just being so fake right?....man I'm done here. I came upset at something that happened to me and asked for advice and instead the majority of you just felt the need to talk down to me....Jeez I was being genuine and had no intention of causing problems. Some people try to turn everything into an argument...what the heck? Sorry for my stupid/mean question I guess....I'll just stay away from message boards from now on jeez.....again though for those few who tried to give helpful kind answers I thank you. My questions have been answered. We can stop the argument this has turned into.

I haven't seen anyone talk down to you in this thread. What I do see is you allowing your emotions to get in the way of what people are saying to you.

I do not think anyone was 'arguing'...just sharing viewpoints, since you posted your thoughts, and probably thought, hoped or believed a bunch a people would respond with some sort of ..'oh gosh, aren't those COs mean and heartless, and our laws are so stupid...only bad people should be punished, but your relatives are the best, most honest people on planet Earth and this is an outrage that they were unjustly denied their right (??) to visit you and you should write your congressman and go on TV and yadda yadda yadda..'..but that didn't happen. Instead, others responded with their thoughts and/or experience, and now you probably have a better idea of why they may have been denied.
