how long will take CAEC status change to 'in transit' from at NVC? mine under mumbai consulate.interview on 5/5/2014..

status is still 'at NVC'.

for me after 2 days I received Interview letter!

How are people filing taxes as their spouses are outside US? I am planning to file jointly. IRS publication 54 mentions we need to report the worldwide income if we file jointly. But I am not clear on how we report the worldwide income since my wife's income is not in USD? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Prwaitingfor wife

I filed single and will amend once my wife cums here. since interview in next month. i called NVC and they told me and then i called IRS 2 make sure that my wife is not having any SSN and i m filing single can i amend my taxes once she cums here. They said yes. Meanwhile other option is to have ITIN # but that will take almost 6-8 weeks. If u still have doubt u can call NVC

My wife has SS#. Is asking for extension an option?

I did file for extension, but now thinking maybe i should file married filing separately than change it, once my wife comes.

July 11, 2013 - NOA 1

September 12, 2013 - Transfer to Nebraska

September 20, 2013 - Case touched

November 14, 2013 - NOA 2

Case shipped to DOS - November 19, 2013

NVC Stage

December 11, 2013 - NVC received my case

December 30, 2013 - NVC case number issued

January 2, 2013 - NVC issued invoice number

January 13, 2013 - DS261 filled out

January 15, 2013 - AOS invoice received and paid

January 17, 2013 - AOS package sent

January 21, 2014 - Fed ex delivered package (NVC confirmed receipt on 22nd)

January 21, 2014 - IV fee invoice received and paid

January 22, 2014 - IV documents sent (payment in process but cleared from bank)

January 23, 2014 - submitted DS260 form, iv documents delivered per fedex (24th per NVC)

How are people filing taxes as their spouses are outside US? I am planning to file jointly. IRS publication 54 mentions we need to report the worldwide income if we file jointly. But I am not clear on how we report the worldwide income since my wife's income is not in USD? Any help is appreciated.

My husband and I did a lot of research about it and we found that when you are married to a nonresident alien, you can file jointly or you can waive that provision and file separately. If you don't have the ITIN, you must file married separately, or I think you can ask for an extension too. You are not allowed to file under the single status, that's illegal and tax fraud.

I doubt what he is saying is right I have lawyer and he told me u can always amend your tax later and there will b no problem this is not fraud u can call IRS and even they can edify u abt this situation. But I told u to call nvc if u have any doubt
