Adding spousal name to passport

Hi...

I'm about to file AOS and AP and I was thinking I would send my passport back to Canada at the same time, since I'm going to the post office anyway, to get the spousal name observation added. I know there are no forms for this and that I'm to send a letter requesting it, $12 CAD, a copy of my marriage certificate and of course my passport.

I called to get the address and I'm not quite sure what it is...I know it's the Gatineau, Quebec one.

Does anyone have the exact address? And does it really take just as long to do this as it does to get a new passport...4 weeks?

Any experiences anyone has had would be appreciated.

I'm applying for a K3 visa and still in Canada waiting. I thought it would be a good idea to have some ID with married name. You need marriage cert., $12.00, passport and another piece of ID with your married name on it. I went and had my drivers licence changed (no charge in Ont. ). They were OK with old drivers licence and copy of temp. lic. with name change on it.

It took less than 3 weeks through the Thunder Bay passport office.

Hey thanks,

Well I've been putting off going for the driving test here...I mean we take US licenses at par it doesn't seem fair. I do have my ssn in my married name but....

I also have a travel card from my husbands company in my married name that's kind of why I need to get it recognized on my passport, Have to get airline tickets in my married name and I'm not sure the TSA will be impressed with my passport if it doesn't have my married name in it. Kind of excited to be able to travel again...even if it's just for a day or two to Canada to stock up on all things Canadian. I actually was craving a Big Turk chocolate bar the other day. Crazy. I didn't really eat them when I was there.

Okay since I went off on a tangent...do you think a travel card would work? I could copy my ssn card but they make you paranoid with all the warnings of don't do this or that. I just don't have any picture id with my name change.

Thanks again for the post

if you can actually get to a passport office I think its only a week to have your married name added, then you can go pick it up, rather than rely upon the postal service to lose everything.

But being in the US I can't get to a passport office. I'll overnight it with delivery/signature confirmation...I think that's the only way I can do it. I'll see how it goes and post for everyone who may be doing it in the future.

We sent Melissa's passport with the marriage certificate, $12, and a letter requesting the change. It's added as an observation...

We got it back in about 2 weeks.
