The land of minimum Wage and Sub Contractors.

I had a job interview this week for a part time job, something to do to pass the time, get out of the house, make some traveling money. I had about a two hour great talk with a national parts store chain manager. The job would include delivering parts to local mechanic shops, interfacing with the store managers and selling them consumables, planning delivers so that “ hot parts” would get top priority. Looking up parts in the system and interfacing with mechanics to ensure the correct part is ordered. Tracking inventory and correctly putting parts back into inventory. Reporting to the Store manager about relationships with customers and developing strategies to improve business with National accounts. Coordinating with the commercial accoutns manager to meet customer demand.

During the interview the manager said she had only one driver working 2 days per week and her sales people were delivering parts. She went on to say that because they were out delivering parts so much they were not meeting goals, and per cooperate policy they had to be written up. We talked about a strategy to get back the business from several national accounts, we talked about people not putting customers first etc. She was really excited about me coming on board and I thought I would really enjoy getting out 20-25 hours per week and interacting with the public. She said she could not keep this position staffed . It required a clean DMV and back ground check.and everyone either quit or she had to let go.

On the way out the door I casually asked what it paid, as money was not my goal, and I thought if I enjoyed it, I would do it for 9 or 10 per hour.

Are you ready. MINIMUM WAGE, no benefits. I told her that was the issue. I actually felt sorry for her as cooperate is not giving her the people to do her job.

Is this what America has become?

Do we need to raise the min wage or will stupid business owners who try to staff important jobs like this and not pay people take care of themselves.

I hate what America is becoming in the workforce. Lo Pay, No benefits, and circumventing labor laws by calling employees sub contractors.

P.S. Before you blame the right wing it has become epidemic in the last 4 years.

The business trend of placing profit well before taking care of employees, short term profit at that, even when it leads to long term damage to the company/corporation is a trend greatly pre-dating the last four years.
