Skype Chat Logs as Evidence

Hi,

My fiance and I are in the process of collecting evidence of proof of our ongoing relationship as mentioned here:

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide#proof

Regarding copies of cell phone bills and such, most of our communication was through video chatting on either Skype or Google Talk. There is history of our conversations within my Skype application, although I can't find any formal way of translating that data into an "official" document to submit as evidence of our ongoing relationship. Has anyone else come across this issue, and know how to solve it? I'd really appreciate any help that could be offered here.

Best regards,

Eoghan

I took screenshots of our note-worthy conversations in text/ viber/ call logs/ skype chat & call logs. I also included screenshots of some of our video calls. :)

I had the same issue with Skype as well. I ended up using a simple program that allows you to print Skype logs into a text format. Here is the link: http://download.cnet.com/SkypeLogView/3000-2144_4-10904438.html

Good Luck!

Thanks for the link. It will come in handy later in my process when I submit the same evidence. We currently communicate text via Whatsapp & Facebook, as well as Skype video & emailing.

In Skype, just right click in your messages and Select All, Copy. Go to a Word Document, Paste. Done.

The I-134 does not need to be notarized.

I just highlighted n copy pasted from skype to word..

Then em we also take screen shots showing us both on cam... On my ipod you press the power button (upper right top) and the "reset" round button at bottom under screen, simultaneously and it puts the screen shot in your photos w date taken meta data. I then put them in photoshop so I could put three to a page with dates under them and an explanation of where they and the dates came from. I have almost one a day for the last 6 months since I learned to do that.

so we have daily text style chat logs with date/times and a daily screen shot showing us both in the video. Lol it's actually really sweet to look at because you can really see the natural smiles and all the expression and love on our faces in those pics that just some text could never express.. Plus there's pictures of me playing games on screen with her 3 year old son grinning at me and pointing or waving etc.. And her mom leaning into some.

Its ridiculous to to assume people would hv phone records these days when things like skype are not only far superior as they are hs video and face to face AND free... Even the random short calls we do have are quick calls via phone card w restricted or otherwise numbers.. Actual calls from USA to China are serious budget busters and who can afford that with all the fees and expenses plus travel they kill us with trying to get through all this.

good luck!!

if you need more explanation or wanted to see examples email me..

If you just copy and past the text, because it is very easy to forge, I do not think it is reliable. I would recommend to take screenshots. That is what I did and it worked fine.

The embassies more focus on how often you two skype more than how long each time is.

If you go to "info" on a whatsapp chat screen, then scroll to the bottom, you can email transcripts of conversations. I do this every 5 days or so. it makes it very easy to keep a record of texts. :)

You can print out a log of calls made through Skype, by month.

You can select/copy/paste chat content into a text editor/word document.

I'm skeptical how important all of this is … none of it is verifiable and can easily be manipulated to demonstrate/hide whatever you want. Is there any additional value to submitting 100 pages of chat history over a statement that two people have chatted an hour a day every day for the past year?

Well, the reason that I ask about this is that skype-skype video chatting has been our main method of communication since we've been apart. The instructions say to provide "cell phone bills, appropriate letters and emails"... We didn't email each other and rarely called using our cell phones. We've also been using an app called KakaoTalk for texting, which can export text but only as far back as August 2013. Would this, as well as appropriate photos, letters, and flight itineraries suffice as evidence of an ongoing relationship?

I keep a detailed log of all phone calls (duration and cost) and Skype video chats in an Excel Spreadsheet. I started doing it from day 1, which was March 30th last year.

I use a prepaid phone card, but unfortunately the company does not provide a way to print the log of phone calls. But the card is exclusively for Ukraine where my fiancee lives, so I print the receipts every time I recharge the card.

I also have an Android app for my phone that backs up all my SMS messages to my gmail account and I have a different app that downloads that information from gmail to my computer. I then wrote a program to gather all that hard data containing the SMS messages into a readable format.

I have also written my own program to extract a complete Skype log and even my Skype text messages from the Skype database stored on my computer.

I also print any receipts for flowers I send her.

I don't think the format matters as long as you keep meticulous records and present a huge pile of proof for the embassy interview. I easily have a stack of paper about 4 inches thick with all the proof.

Now if I could just get my fiancee out of the Crimea for her interview in Kiev we would be all set! We have all the documentation finished and they are just waiting on us to schedule it, but right now it's impossible to get out of the Crimea. The only flights operating are between Simferopol and Moscow. And it is difficult to send the money to her for the visas since many of the banks are now closed and those that are open and that worked for MoneyGram until recently no longer operate with MoneyGram. I'm not sure about Western Union, but it's probably the same story. I'm also not sure if the bank authorized to take visa payments is still open, but it probably won't be open next week since it is a Ukrainian bank that's a subsidiary of an Austrian Bank.

Hopefully things will settle down after the Crimean vote this Sunday.

I just had my I130 approved. I had intended to include facebook logs (we have something like over 100k messages on facebook messages at this point) but the files were so large my work computer couldn't handle them. I ended up just including an intermittent skype log - maybe every 5th page of a printed skype log showing our messages/calls on there. This and our initial online dating dialogue for the couple weeks before we met in person were all I included for evidence of communication between us.

04/14/12 - First date in the U.S.

02/26/13 - Married

06/3/13 - Petition Filed (had been unsuccessfully trying to move to Europe)

06/6/13 - NOA1 (National Benefits Center)

12/19/13 - Transferred to Nebraska Service Center

03/3/14 - I130 Approved

03/18/14 - NVC Received file from USCIS

04/28/14 - Received/Paid AOS Bill

05/01/14 - Received/Paid IV Bill

05/14/14 - Sent AOS Package

05/30/14 - Sent IV Package

06/05/14 - Submitted DS-260

06/19/14 - Received checklist for AOS, resubmitted required corrections

08/09/14 - Case completed at NVC

08/14/14 - Received Interview Date

09/08/14 - Interview date - Approved!

09/11/14 - Raced into town, threw car into a parking spot, and ran down city streets to get to the courier company 2 minutes before the close to get passport back
