As the topic says i am wondering how important is joint tax return for ROC? If we file jointly we will owe 580$ federal and 240$ state but if we file separately we wont owe (makes no sense to me but i know nothing about taxes) Now i personaly don't care even if we owe cos we'll pay it but my wife is being paranoid cos of all the debt she has and bankrupcy processing and she just doesn't wana pay an extra. It's not we'r loaded but if if's gonna help me woth ROC I'd gladly file it jointly. So how would it look in the eyes of USCIS if we would file separately for ROC ?!

Ant comments are welcome

As long as you file "married, filing separately"., and not claim to be single,m you will be fine.

Not important at all. Both years prior to RoC I filed separately just because we were getting more money back. I got my ROC approved in less than 3 months.
