I have. It is starting job. We did it to make enough for pocket change. It is not the type of job one aspires to if they want to make it in life.

There needs to be a paradigm shift, because having the consumer economy run on poorly made objects that we are forced to buy from China really sucks. I remember when the U.S.A. made things and they were much better quality. So they cost a little more. Wages have been stagnate for a very long time. I could care less if Walmart hired more people. I wish they went out of business. Then the small businesses could come back. As far as I see it, Walmart hasn't made a lot of jobs. There were jobs before, they were just smaller businesses and more of them. And people could afford to buy American products because the cost of living was lower and their wages higher in comparison.

If you increase the wage then Wal Mart can and will absorb and then pass along the costs. The smaller businesses will fail. Wal Mart will then hire less people themselves. It is a lose lose. We are not forced to buy China. We buy because the consumer wants them products.

To be fair though most perishables are made here in the U.S. It is a huge industry. If stores are forced to close they will be hurt also.

Why are you against this.The question you should be asking is why a pickup truck is costing near $30,000 due to overpriced union labor......What if everyone belonged to a union. The person sweeping a floor at Wal-mart made $60,000 per year like an UAW worker. You had to wait around for an hour to get someone to reach that top shelf because he just went to lunch and the associate standing next to you says with a smile.... not my job man.Union contract says I cannot climb that ladder. That TV you want cost $15,000..... got to cover that high labor bill you know.

Local vendors supply Walmart as well as regional vendors, and a national warehouse distribution network. Nothing unique there, just Walmart does it better.

Man you love detracting from the topic. Walmart doesn't have unions. So I get it now, you complain people are on welfare yet you advocate for depressed wages to keep said people on welfare.

I think it is reasonable to raise the minimum wage, to a living wage and therefore the working and ever shrinking middle class will have more money in their pocket. No one is talking about raising Walmart workers to 60k a year.

So what are we talking about? That's the trouble with 'living wage' … can't find a number associated with it … just a bunch of subjective fluff about adequate food, shelter and transportation.

Should a living wage be localized and pegged to the a local cost of living index? Just did a quick search … doesn't look like the infrastructure is there to determine this yet on a local basis. ACCRA constructs a cost of living index for urban areas. Closest federal bench mark seems to the CPI. Setting it nationally seems inadequate.
