when your closets are filled to overflowing with cheap krap made in China, purchased at Walmart, when your state income tax bills rise to pay for the health care of WalMart servants, er, employees, and when good paying jobs continue to be shipped to Chinese prisons and orphanages, then ask yourselves...'was shopping at Walmart really a bargain?'....if you cannot answer that question, then clearly our public schools are not preparing people for the future.

While living in China I noticed that the shopping malls all carried high end quality clothing, jewelry, housewares, electronics equal to or better than what you find in most American stores. Life is improving in China for everyone thanks to the change-over to capitalism. You can find China made products in just about everything you buy today as they can just make it cheaper. New Wal-Mart stores are being built every day in China and it's providing jobs and a better life for those people. Wal-Mart workers are free to leave and find another job if they aren't happy with the wage and working conditions. It's just nice to know that the growth of Wal-Mart is not only helping the lives of American consumers and workers, but also the people of China. A true win-win. Last time I checked Obama-care was the law of the land, so if healthcare costs begin to rise, and they will rise, then that's where you should look first.

China does have a problem producing cheap knock-offs and sub-standard quality, and some of these make it to small stores in the US, but you will never find them in a store like Wal-Mart.

Problem is that China's current economic model has a very short lifespan. Sooner or later countries in Africa or somewhere else will start manufacturing this stuff cheaper than China can. Same thing happened with the U.S. then Taiwan, then Mexico, etc. etc. There's always poorer people to be exploited somewhere else.

I think India actually has an advantage over China in that they offer more services. Also they speak English in India (Better than the British although that's not saying much)

It's hard to know how long it will last, but they do sport the world's fastest growing economy. The world continues to change and evolve. Who knows what it will be tomorrow. I don't know if China will be able to sustain maintaining the incredible building boom and infrastructure. It was just a few years ago that it seemed strange for an American business to even suggest moving jobs to another country or sending specifications to a foreign manufacturer to make widgets for products with an American name. They started calling it "offshore." People from India learn to speak English immediately. But, today so do the Chinese. It's not saying much that China actually has a cleaner and more modern environment than India.

How Walmart Is Changing China
The world’s biggest corporation and the world’s most populous nation have launched a bold experiment in consumer behavior and environmental stewardship: to set green standards for 20,000 suppliers making several hundred thousand items sold to billions of shoppers worldwide. Will that effort take hold, or will it unravel in a recriminatory tangle of misguided expectations and broken promises?
....Through the so-called Walmart Effect—according to the scholars who study the enormous global footprint of the company’s management decisions—whatever Walmart does will profoundly influence all its competitors. So Walmart’s reincarnation as a company devoted to sustainability is, in fact, a catalyst for a positive global shift.

That started before Walmart became a dominant factor. Remember when Motorola, Zenith, RCA, Admiral etc made TV's in the US? Remember when Detroit was the auto capital of the world?

Some folks don't get that. I have a brother in law that's always posting these union graphics on Facebook. I notice they're always some poster from the 40s and 50s. Times change and they're not changing back. People can accept it and adapt, or sit around and live in the past and get passed over.

Some examples:

And I'll bet that most of the Walmart haters in this thread are driving foreign cars while complaining about the death of American manufacturing. But that doesn't count because it's ok if they do it.

If you shop at Walmart you will save enough money to buy a car.
