Canadian immigration is a major pain in the #######, and not only to failed refugee claimants I'll tell you that! Been there done that, that's why I live in the US now :P

If you and your husband ever want to re-visit Canada, he will have to do a lot of paperwork ahead of time, which may take several years to clear.

Find out for sure from the Consulate General in your area (there's a list on their website of CGs in the US) which paperwork he'll need to do and then submitt that. With the foreknowledge that they'll likely lose it half a dozen times, and then when it finally makes it to some adjudicator's desk, it'll be out of date and they'll send it all back asking for updates and yadda yadda yadda. :P

In the end it may well be worth the effort, but the whole process is long and tedious and very very frustrating. Get it done, if only for the off chance that you may want to travel somewhere else in the world, and you end up with a connecting flight somewhere in Canada, you don't want to be caught off guard.

Getting advice from a Canadian immigration lawyer may not hurt also familiar with refugee claims. A lawyer in the US is not going to know or understand the Canadian refugee laws, or basic Canadian immigration laws for that matter.

 jeez ... canada must think they're all that to give people this much trouble. i'm actually to the point of saying "good riddance" and turning my attention to europe or mexico for my vacation destinations.

Yep, if you dont pay your international debts, Canadian companies are quite capable of and quite willing to ding your US credit. We have a treaty. It works both ways Hahahahaha

Actually, this is good stuff nice to see some country somewhere enforcing a few of their laws when it comes to immigration.

Deportation meas one needs to go back to his own country of residence.

If a deportation order has been issued it needs to be completed unless there is a stay order from the court..

You hv complicated yr case by abscoding immigration, which is definitely a red flag for his US visa

U need firts to resolve his deportaton order even before you file a visa petition

well, being inadmissable to one country could also leave him inadmissable to other countries if they have an information trading treaty. Which means of course that planning vacations to countries other than Canada may require some research ahead of time on your part to find out if he'll even be allowed entry.

We've had to do some research to find out if my hubby will be allowed to visit the UK. I emailed their consulate and the answer I got was ambivalent at best. Pretty much "I can't tell you that. The only way to know for sure is to try to go there" Which is rather annoying, we want to go to a friend's wedding in May.

I suspect tho, in my husband's case it won't be much of an issue because his inadmissability is due to several factors, one being a juvenile charge of car theft (he's 42 now) and us getting wrong information from the Candian immigration phone help line (much like the USCIS mis-information line). However, a deportation order in one country, as is the case for your husband, could make travel to other countries tricky. IIWY, I'd do lots of research before any travel plans.
