From what I have read, sometimes they will look at the case but not really change or update anything. In my case, it only showed whenever they changed the status.

Once they set up an appt, they should email/text you saying there was a change and online it will say something like... "On X month and day we mailed you a notice for your interview on xx/xx/xxxx"

What documentation did they ask for at the Social Security Office?

Passport, EAD card and Birth Certificate.

thats 2 forms of identification and Immigration status.

Good to hear that you didn't encounter any issues with the SSN. We just received our EAD/AP combo card today. We will go to the SSA office tomorrow.

I didn't remember I need birth certificate for SSN. It was 10 years ago.

I just remember I bought my passport and I 20 at that time. And they just let me apply for me. Received SS card in a mail within a week.

Oh, we don't have the same office, but similar timeline. My office is the San Diego office. Earlier I meant to say that the San Diego office is also experiencing processing delays like Newark, which is probably why both of us haven't receive the interview date yet.

Anyway, we will go to the SSA office in a few hours. Hopefully no issues .

You can look up processing times for your local field office here: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do?locale=en-US

If there are no delays, it should say something like "4 months". Otherwise, it will show the filing date of the last case that was completed in that office. For Chicago, it shows that as of 4/30/14, they are working on cases from 7/26/13.

For some perspective, for San Diego, as of 4/30/14, they are working on cases from 12/4/13, and I have not received anything yet. So you may have to wait longer than me, that's my best guess.

For those that have had their interview date already scheduled, can you check your local office processing times and let us know? Maybe we can some hints on when we may receive our interview dates.

I have my interview scheduled for June 18th at the El Paso Field Office. Website says:

Boston field office says they're processing files from November 4 2013. My priority date is March 21 2014 and my interview is next week, June 16.

Everyone's is truly different. I've seen many March NYC filer's have their interviews schedule or even done. USCIS website is still processing apps from September 29th, 2013 as of the end of April this year. My status changed to T&I on 5/14 and I'm till waiting to hear on the interview schedule. Some people got their's scheduled within a week or so, others have taken a lot longer. To me it seems like the luck of the draw, but of course hard to tell what's happening in the background.

How do you know what office is handling your I-485 case? My NOAs receipt numbers begin with MSC, which I believe is Missouri Service Center (National Benefits Center).

Ours also begins with MSC because that is where our application is initially routed for processing. However, processing times are determined by each local field office since that is where the final adjudication takes place. We just finished going to the SSA office. When we arrived, we had to get a ticket number and wait about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, our ticket was called and we went into a room. A lady asked my wife what she was here for. She said "to apply for a social security card". The lady then asked what documents we have from immigration. My wife showed her the EAD card and her notarized birth registry. The lady said that it needed to be an original birth certificate, but we did not have that. So she just asked for a passport and my wife gave her that, and it was fine. After a while, the lady said that immigration does not have her in the system yet probably because my wife just received the EAD card. (This was what I was hoping not to happen, but I expected that it may happen). So she said that they will contact them and wait for them to approve the verification. (This part may take up to 4 weeks) Once it is approved, we will be sent a receipt stating that the application has been processed and we should receive the SSN in 1-2 weeks from when it is approved. She made copies of our documents and told us that we did not need to come back to continue the process.

So overall it wasn't too bad, but I was hoping that my wife would already be in the system so that she can get the card sooner. But at least we did not have to return to the office.

You should bring originals, they will not keep them. If they need copies, they will make copies.
