Thanks misasale and Uhoh - it defininitely helped!

I got approved on the spot today. :dance: Now my last "waiting period" is for the green card to arrive in the mail and them I am all set :-)

The interview itself was very pleasant and overall it took 45 minutes from being called in and leaving. Nothing to worry about! :dancing:

We just received the hard copy of the Interview notification today, but I have a question for you since you just went through it. The letter mentions you should bring a certified copy of the marriage document issued by the appropriate civil authority. Can it be just the original marriage certificate with a copy of it or does it necessarily need to be a certified copy? What did you bring with you to the interview?

We just received the hard copy of the Interview notification today, but I have a question for you since you just went through it. The letter mentions you should bring a certified copy of the marriage document issued by the appropriate civil authority. Sorry for the late reply.

So, it has to be a certified copy of the marriace document by the authorities. We had included this in our original package.

For the interview we brought the original certificate, so she could match it against the certified copy.

My advice: bring the original AND the certified copy if it wasn't included in your package you sent. Just a copy won't do the job for them.

I had also brought my original birth certificate, so that they saw it.

Thanks for your answer. When we sent the package we just sent a regular copy (since they don't ask for a certified copy) of the marriage certificate with the certified translation, since we didn't get married in the US and the certificate is not in English.

How do I get a certified copy?

Is it just a regular copy then i have to get it notarized?

I know the question was not for me but I thought I would share information that I was able to get regarding this subject.

I actually asked this on a website where lawyers answer your questions about immigration and these are the different answers that I got:

Lawyer A: "An original or certified copy will be sufficient. If you are using an original, it must have the original stickers/stamps and codes from the court. If you have any doubts, go to the court and request a certified copy."

Lawyer B: "If it is an original signed and sealed document then you should be fine. What you need to be sure of is that the portion of the document (most jurisdictions are the same) where the person performing the ceremony signs is complete. Sometimes people will hand me a copy of the marriage license they were issued to present to the minister or other official without the bottom portion completed. Then they need a certified copy. Be sure it is fully complete. As most jurisdictions require the person performing the ceremony to return the original to the government with their portion completed, you may actually have a certified copy now."

Lawyer C: "Either an original or a certified copy is sufficient."

I also called the USCIS and they basically said the same thing, so I am not worried anymore :)

We moved from Kansas to North Carolina this past weekend and I've changed my address online last Tuesday; I just hope they schedule the interview to NC...

Hahahaha.... I got the email notification last night after I already received the hard copy NOA... The online status thing isn't too reliable.

I feel so lucky that it's gone so smoothly, so far. I think/hope it helped a lot to do the walk biometrics early. I used a lawyer too who compiled my packet and advised on what to include. It's probably not essential to use one but given my 2 year overstay I didn't want to take any chances. We haven't had any RFE's so far as I think we front loaded with lots of primary evidence. Fingers crossed the interview is swift and smooth too! I cannot quite believe I might have my green card approved 88 days from filing. So fast!!!! I think many of us March filers have had pretty quick timelines compared to the stated ones on the USCIS website?
