In NJ as I have a full UK licence all I have to do is take the knowledge test then show them my UK licence & I get a US one.

That's really useful to know - this is the first state I have heard of where you are able to do that with a UK license - usually only Canadian, French and German licenses are regularly swapped with no road test.

Have you done this yourself yet? If not please come back and confirm that it can be done. It's not clear from the NJ DMV site that the road test will be waived.

You get a state ID card if you can't (or don't want to) drive so you don't have a driver's license. You don't need both... the good thing about the ID card is that it's cheap and it functions in exactly the same way as a license for identification, it just doesn't let you drive a vehicle. (I don't drive, so I just got an ID card...)

Thanks! and thanks for advice smile.png

I do have my UK License though I am not allowed to use it to drive in Mississippi.... so a US Driving License is definitely the next step

If you passed the DL test in the UK, you will be able to get a US DL with your eyes closed. Just read the booklet before you take the written test and you should be fine. The tests here are not anywhere as thorough as they are in the UK.

LOL! Yes... everyone has said that compared to the strictness of the UK test, the US one should be a doddle.... here's hoping! Thank u everyone for great feedback good.gif
