Hi Guys.

I received my green card today (Yay!!!.... happy dance ). Should I still apply for a state ID card? Is it needed at all?

In NJ my wife uses her driving licence as ID, do you have a full UK licence by any chance.

The DL replaces the state ID. You don't need both and in some - if not all(?) - states you can't have both.

I do have my UK License though I am not allowed to use it to drive in Mississippi.... so a US Driving License is definitely the next step

In your state do they allow you to get a US licence with only doing the knowledge test & no driving test.

I wish!!

I was told I could use my UK License to drive if I was a "visitor" of the united states, but as a LPR I can not drive on a UK License and have to take the knowledge test AND Driving test

In NJ as I have a full UK licence all I have to do is take the knowledge test then show them my UK licence & I get a US one.

Im Jealous! I Called Mississippi Highway patrol a few weeks ago who also confirmed to me by email that I have to take both the computer test and driving test, I honestly thought I wouldn't need to take the driving test. Im a born worrier so I hope this doesn't affect me or hinder me and that I pass first time... apparently they driving test itself is literally 5 minutes..... fingers crossed that's true LOL

That's what I have heard about the tests over here that they are about 15 mins long lol, it might be worth popping in to a local DMV office & ask them face to face.

Lucky you lot, here i also had to do a 3 hours drug and alcohol course, which is a bit of a laugh considering that in the UK it is a taken much more seriously than here. The road test was a joke, about 5 mins on the road, just went round in a square all controlled by traffic lights. Now I know why the drivers here are so bad.
