Hi Guys,

So this is about my 92 years old grandma who we are planning to bring on here to the states. My father have petitioned her 15 years ago and was approved, however my grandma decided to stay back in China back then so the petition went expired. Now with almost everyone in our family have moved here to the states, she wants to be with us. Also due to her health condition, we need to be around her to take care her....So the short questions is can we still petition her after the one incident where the application went expired? And is her age going to be a problem with GUZ interview? Thanks!

Don't mean to be a downer but do you know how stressful a move is at ANY age? And to be 92? You mentioned due to her health. So I am taking that she is not in the best health anyways.

Plus trying to get any insurance for someone that age plus medication is going to be just very expensive.

Maybe rethink this or talk this over with your family. But I don't think there is any age limit for immigration. But someone might know more.

Assumption: her husband is USCitizen now.

Tell him to file again, the I-130, asking for expedite.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Other assumption: Your father is a USCitizen now.

HE can file the I-130, asking for an expedite, now.

Is immediately family preference (for mom) so it should go fast.

Its always very hard for elders to move to a different country, keep in mind that she lived all her life in china, and the only thing to keep in mind is her acceptance of the new condition and adapting to life in the USA, and i have a strong feeling that this was the issue, (if not the only one) that made her delay the move to the USA in the first place.

I tried for years and years to make my mother come and live with us in Canada, but she was always coming over the years for a 3-6 months visit only. I tried for over 10 years, and applied for her at a certain point but the whole thing went to a stall (same like your grand mom case) until she passed away, and I came to a clear understanding that they find it hard adapting to life and leaving their memories and people they know and the biggest issue is the language barrier, they don't enjoy TV, radio, and things like that, even going to malls or outdoor activities the feel very isolated from the world.

Immigration and sponsorship is not an issue at all for someone in her age and its not an issue coming to the USA as she is a relative in the first degree, but the only thing to keep in mind is (adapting her) to life and making sure its not adding or creating stress on her, since stress will worsen her health condition and make medical treatment another issue you won't like to get into.

good luck and best wishes for your family and grandmother.

Hi all, thanks for the fast reply on this! So we will proceed the journey on petition this weekend. I would agree to most of the concerns above about moving someone to the US. But unfortunately this is only option left due to many family reasons and yes this is my grannie's wish to be with us. Believe me I DO KNOW how stressful to move/petition someone (been through this for the past 3 years....)

Anyway, my father (her son) will be petitioning her. My grandpa passed away, part of reason why grannie feeling lonely.

mimolicious- Btw is health insurance required as part of the application process? Just to understand if this is an actual requirement or just an assumption?

Obamacare?

Just wondering how you could have missed it.

Obviously Insurance of any kind is only a small part of the costs.

If you can afford it good for you.

by all mean, no offense, is OBAMA care part of immigration requirement now? This really what I am asking about in my last post, maybe wasn't clear enough. Anyway, we will deal with insurance options later in another post/topic else where...

I have no idea how you can so easily divorce the two issues.

I will look out for your other thread with interest, please post a link here.

dude, I have no idea how you still find this question to be complex, as mentioned already, the whole point of this post here is really figure out the application process/limitation. Bring her hers is the option we going for which means exactly what I had asked about, the application requirement. Now regarding with insurance, which we will deal with it later when she arrived, regardless of the method to get her provided. Anyway, I am not looking to go back and forth on this. Thanks for you reply, but please stop on this topic now and move on

Always good to have a plan.
