I met many au pairs in college who were all on J-1 visas.

Their host families paid for school as well a stipend in return for childcare.

Seemed like a marvelous program to me!

See link from state department for more info

http://j1visa.state.gov/programs/au-pair/

looks like a 12 month program with option to extend 6,9, or 12 more months.

You, my friend, are an optimist.

Hope the nanny fits the narrow criteria to qualify as an au pair.

Nope, No, Nada, sorry it just ain't going to happen. Sure she can apply for a tourist visa but the chances of here getting approved is like the proverbial "snow ball chance in hell".

You can thank to decades of abuse by the Colombian's country people who ruined the chance for their fellow Colombianos.

No one has mentioned a tourist visa. Probably because everyone knows a tourist visa holder cannot work in the US.

Don't blame Columbians for the inability to bring a foreign nanny to the US. That is not a response to visa abuse. That's about protecting US workers from foreign labor.

I guess I am! What can I say, I'm a glass half-to-3/4-full kind of gal! luv.gif

True.. it's a narrow criteria with age restrictions and OP didn't give much info on the nanny-to-be.

May be a long shot, but may be an option (uh oh..my glass is draining..)

A company cannot sponsor a nanny any more than the typical American citizen, for all of the same reasons.

Au Pairs have an age restriction; nannies are not an occupation that requires a college degree.

What if you are a Nanny company? :)

J1 see above
