1040 or Tax Transcripts?

What is better to provide at the embassy interview in Manila, 1040's or tax transcripts?

I am self-employed and plan to provide my tax transcripts for the last few years. Due to being self-employed I always need to pay in April, so I always wait until April 15th to send in my tax stuff. Because of that I will not have a tax transcript for 2013 for her interview, but I should have my 1040. I will have my 2010, 2011, and 2012 tax transcripts. My yearly income is well above the minimum, so would I need much more for evidence of support? Since I am self employed I do not have a set salary or pay checks. I requested a list of money transfers from Western Union that I plan to provide that will show what I have been sending her monthly to cover her living expenses and college tuition, which has been quite a bit. Those transfers should show that I have already been supporting her for the last few years.

Her interview is April 10 and I am going there to be with her for it.

Thanks.

Samo-Samo. Either is acceptable.

You only need your most recent tax return (transcript) and W-2, which is 2012 at the moment. Do NOT need other years.

You being there does help, and for sure a great experience... I am glad I was there, I will never for get that day.

Transcripts for past 3 years that demonstrate your earnings are greater than the the earnings level for your family size vased on the poverty guide will be all that you need. You do not need to show your support (college and living expenses) unless asked. They are looking for a relationship and that you will not become a ward of the state. From what I gather from your post you should have no problem with your interview.

Yes, I figured that. The others would mostly be backups to show consistent earnings if needed.

I am looking forward to being there. My Fiance also will feel more comfortable with me there. Originally I did not plan to go, but we ended up delaying the process well past the initial 4 month time frame since the petition was approved. I figured I better be there just encase there is any issue with that. Even though I was assured by the embassy that as long as we still intend to get married and are eligible, they will extend the petition. Everything has already taken so long, and she was close to graduating college, we decided to just delay things so she will have time to graduate before the visa will expire.

Another interesting thing about our appointment day, it's also my birthday. It should be an exciting day.

Yes I planned to only show the tax transcripts intially and use the support proof only if asked. I have visited her 3 times already and was just there this last November for her birthday. Plus we have known each other for over 7 years now. Another thing regarding her being a burden to the state, she will graduate college before she moves here and will have a BS degree in Information Technology. Once she is able to work, she should not have too much trouble finding a job.

Yes the embassy automatically extends the petition validity up to a year, so no issue there.

One more question about this... do they keep any of the tax forms or other personal financial info we use during the interview? I think I remember reading somewhere to black out any account numbers or SSN's on the documents.

The USCIS and the consulates prefer Tax Transcripts. You can obtain them online and print them yourself, FOC.

Good luck!

Yes they keep all the financial documents for the interview, which is why you send copies. But you do not black out the SSN at the embassy... after all they already has that info anyway, you gave it to them on the G-325A wink.png And it will not be the last time you give them your SSN during this whole process.

The suggestion for blacking out the SSN is if you give CFO a copy of your ITR

Maybe that is true for Monaco but the embassy instructions letter for USEM states clearly - tax return (and W-2). They have no issue accepting a tax transcript but there is nothing in the embassy instructions letter stating they prefer a transcript.

It is not a rule, indeed. The difference is that with the transcripts there is lass paper to be looked at, and the transcripts are official, hence their being preferred over the 1040s and W-2's.

Still doesn't matter if it is a 1040 or transcript, no where does it state a tax transcript is preferred by the USEM. This is solely your personal opinion, unless you can provide a link from USEM stating otherwise, for you to state "it is preferred by the consulate" is misleading and actually inaccurate.

I may have expressed myself incorrectly. Both transcripts and tax forms are accepted. The consulates however prefer transcripts. Besides they are more reliable.
