Can I get my PCC from where the passport is issued even if I live in another city?

ok. I don't think I will now look at adding my wife's name in the passport.

Sure, not an issue, trust me!

Could you also please tell me if it is mandatory to have the PCC sent out with the IV package? Or, do I have the option of presenting it at the time of the interview?

Yes, I would rather you send it along with your package. You're more than likely to get an RFE otherwise.

Coming back to the getting the PCC issued on the passport- once I have the PCC stamped on my passport from my hometown from where the passport is issued, do I still have to go to the Passport office in Mumbai? You had mentioned that I will have to get a clearance from the local police station...in that case would the local passport office still come in the picture?

The Passport Office that comes into picture would be the one in Kerala.

I also learnt that if I am getting a PCC stamped from my hometown, the authorities will send my details to the local Mumbai police station in the area where I live to verify my records. That I assume would again make the whole process long. Would you be able to throw some light on this?

Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of that and don't think I can be of any help there.

Anytime! I went through this just a coupla years ago, so am well aware of the number of questions that can pop up at any given time.

A word of caution though. This is one long-drawn process and there will be times when you might lose it, but keep the faith. As they say, all good things come to those who wait.

Indeed! Am hanging in there... patiently. The NOA1 to NOA2 stage though was long, happened without a hitch. Hoping NVC goes the same way. Cheers!

Hi Kat,

Please do let me how it went for him. I am wary of getting the addressed changed at this point as I am told that It can take 30-40 days. As of now I plan to get the PCC issued from my home town and then separately get a police verification done in Mumbai if necessary. But plans can change with he different opinions coming my way.

And I didn't get the point about adding my wife to the passport. Why is it important? Never really considered it.

Just wanted to give you an update! Hubby had his PSK appt on the 12th (Wed last week) and he just got the sms today that his passport has been dispatched via speed post. The sms even had a tracking number. We are estimating he will get the new passport latest by wed/thurs this week so it took them less than 7 days to add my name and update the address in his passport! Amazing, I have never seen anything so efficient lately in India!

When we asked in Bangalore about the PCC they told us my name needed to be there. Now that the update is complete we will go forward with the PCC.

Great to hear that things went well for your husband at the PSK. Yeah, I am told that they are quite efficient these days with TCS (Tata Consultancy Service) managing the process at PSKs.

Yes, I would rather you send it along with your package. You're more than likely to get an RFE otherwise.

This is not true.

No RFEs - Mumbai requires you to submit the PCC at the interview and at the time of the interview only.

According to the guidelines, if you are an Indian citizen who resides in India and your Indian passport was issued more than six months prior to visa application, then you need to obtain a PCC from:

1. The passport office that issued your passport.

2. The district police office serving your current place of residence.

You've stated that you've been living in that apartment complex for over seven years. Wouldn't it be more than likely that you signed a rental agreement with your landlord? That could be proof of residence.

This is not needed.

You only need a police certificate clearance called a PCC from the Passport Office

No other documents are needed in this case.

If you wife is not listed in your passport they will issue your PCC saying you are single and it might become an issue at the embassy since you are obviously not single and are going for a marriage visa. We were told you have to get the spouse added or some offices (bangalore) will not issue the PCC at all until its updated since the letter you have to show them states its for a US CR1 visa which is marriage related immigration visa

This is wrong.

An Actual PCC states no such thing.

Please dont dish out advice like this - getting a foreign spouse's name in India is a hassle.

The PSK doesnt care and the embassy doesnt care if you're single on your PCC Application form/Passport.

I can only tell you what we just went through in Pangalore PSK to obtain our PCC. I started an entire thread about it in the india forum and yes he was not permitted to get his PCC until he updated the back of his passport with my name as spouse. It was not a hassle to add my name, it took a week, but it had to be done for the Bangalore PSK to issue the PCC. They flat out refused.

Please be respectful that especially in india, every babu may ask/deny/require different things and that every day something different might happen. I can only say what happened for us.

Not really.

Without being disrespectful ma'am.

The addition of spouse is not mandatory with the sole exception of Gujarat which requires, as you know, not just the spouse's name to be added, but the Interview Letter AND the NVC checklist.

Tatkal is not available to everyone and it can take months to get a reissued passport.

Add to the fact that 50% of couples might not have an Indian Marriage certificate.

Your marital status is only germane to the PCC Application Form - and so far as I am aware, that status must match what is on the actual Passport.

That is exactly what bangalore PSK also requires, the passport with spouse name, the IL and the checklist. we were able to circumvent the IL by providing the NVC barcode sheet and the checklist we showed the Mumbai checklist available online but even then we had to pay heavy bribe.

And no his passport was not reissued tatkal, that is something Bangalore just actually has going right for it that they reissued the passport in a week, we too were shocked and expected it to take months. Our close friends our Kashmiri (born in JK) and just got their passports reissued in Bangalore as well and that took 2 weeks due to their birth location, so for some things Bangalore is great and in others they ask stupid things...same like the rest of india!

An officer that takes bribes would be really really helpful in my situation :(

So tired of all this by now

Don't worry, you are closer to being done than we are....the light is there at the end of the tunnel

I think we are all too tired of this. Hubby and I joke all the time how our 1st anniversary is this coming saturday and we lived together for more time before being legally married than we have since our wedding! Its a huge joke and honestly if I knew how long and painful this was going to be, I would have stayed working in India for another year before going back to the US, at least then we would have been together.

Hi sjandsj,

I am living in Kerala for last 5 years(originally from Kerala) and my Passport issued from Kerala. But I have stayed in Bangalore for 3 years before returning to Kerala. I assumes that I need a PCC from PSK Kerala. But my actual question is do I need a Police clearance certificate from Bangalore for the 3 year duration.

I got NOA2 this week and applied for IR1/CR1. Thanks for your support.
