Can I get my PCC from where the passport is issued even if I live in another city?

Someone who has applied from Mumbai or anywhere in India might be able to help me with this.

I am a resident of Mumbai but have my passport which is issued from Kerala, where I originally belong. I don't have any of the required document proof that the Passport Seva website has mentioned as I have been staying in a rented accommodation all these years and all most bills and such documents come to my office address.

I have been given to understand that the Police Clearance Certificate for the IV package has to be taken from the local passport office. I am in a quandary about how to prove residence proof. I wanted to know if an NOC from the society office of the residential complex where i have been living for over 7 years can help.

I don't think I can now get a PCC done on my passport from Kerala where my passport is issued from as I have already mentioned in in my i130 forms that I live in Mumbai.

Can anyone guide me on how to go about my PCC given the situation I am in. I Am IR1/CR1 application who just reached the NVC stage.

Does anyone know any agents/consultants in Mumbai who can help me in this situation.

Would be grateful if any of you who have been in a similar situation can give me some guidance.

Thanks in advance.

According to the guidelines, if you are an Indian citizen who resides in India and your Indian passport was issued more than six months prior to visa application, then you need to obtain a PCC from:

1. The passport office that issued your passport.

2. The district police office serving your current place of residence.

You've stated that you've been living in that apartment complex for over seven years. Wouldn't it be more than likely that you signed a rental agreement with your landlord? That could be proof of residence.

Thank you for your response.

Are both required or one of them?

It will not be a problem getting the PCC from where the passport is issued.

I don't know the process of getting it from the district police office. I do have a rental agreement since 2011. Would that be sufficient for the Police department?

I'm assuming that your passport was issued more than six months prior to your visa application, so yes, both are required. To obtain a PCC from the district police, you probably would need to go to the police station and find out how to get a clearance certificate from them. Once you give them your address, they will inquire with your neighbors, apartment manager, etc., and then report back, and if all is well, you'll then be issued a clearance certificate.

Thanks you for that information. Will find out more about getting the certificate from the Police dept. I hope it is not too time consuming. Regret that I woke up late to realize that it is not as simple as what I thought it would be.

Just saw the pdf shared by the Mumbai consulate specifying the requirements. Regards Police Report this is what they have to say - " POLICE REPORT: Each applicant aged 16 years and older must submit a police clearance certificate that includes information regarding the applicant, including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s) and the disposition of such cases. All Indian IV applicants aged 16 or above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from a Regional Passport Office. These certificates are valid of one year from the date of issuance. If the police certificate already submitted to NVC has expired, then please bring a new police certificate to the visa interview."

Doesn't say anything about getting the report from the Police department. But I nevertheless will find out.

I agree, but in your case, your passport was issued in Kerala whereas you are residing in Mumbai, which is why you need to get a police clearance from Mumbai as well. Had your passport been issued in Mumbai, or had you been living in Kerala, then the above would hold good for you.

the other option, is to get your passport updated with your current address and they will do the PCC at the same time. My hubby has his PSK appt tomorrow to add my name to his passport, update the address from Pune to Bangalore and to get the PCC (once the first 2 are done they will do the PCC).

have you already added your spouse to your passport? if not then you need to get that done as well so what I have suggested might be the easiest thing to do. They will accept rental agreement and bank statements with your rented address as proof of address (at least that is what they told my hubby, now we will see what they say when he goes in tomorrow at 11am!)

Hi Kat,

Please do let me how it went for him. I am wary of getting the addressed changed at this point as I am told that It can take 30-40 days. As of now I plan to get the PCC issued from my home town and then separately get a police verification done in Mumbai if necessary. But plans can change with he different opinions coming my way.

And I didn't get the point about adding my wife to the passport. Why is it important? Never really considered it.

If you wife is not listed in your passport they will issue your PCC saying you are single and it might become an issue at the embassy since you are obviously not single and are going for a marriage visa. We were told you have to get the spouse added or some offices (bangalore) will not issue the PCC at all until its updated since the letter you have to show them states its for a US CR1 visa which is marriage related immigration visa

I will check on that with someone in the Passport office in Cochin.

Was just reading that people have not always submitted the PCC with the IV package and instead presented it for the interview. Wonder if that is possible. Just thinking that if my PCC is going to be a time taking process since it has 2 states involved, it would be great to have some additional time and have it presented at the time of the interview.

Contrary to what Kat has stated, not having your wife's name added on to your passport wouldn't be an issue at all. All the investigating officer has gotta do is check the date of issue of the passport and check the date of the wedding, and they can tell! So, in my opinion, it does not really matter.

On the other hand, if you do update your marital status and current address on your passport, then yes, all you'll need is a passport clearance certificate from the nearby PSK.

ok. I don't think I will now look at adding my wife's name in the passport.

Could you also please tell me if it is mandatory to have the PCC sent out with the IV package? Or, do I have the option of presenting it at the time of the interview?

Coming back to the getting the PCC issued on the passport- once I have the PCC stamped on my passport from my hometown from where the passport is issued, do I still have to go to the Passport office in Mumbai? You had mentioned that I will have to get a clearance from the local police station...in that case would the local passport office still come in the picture?

I also learnt that if I am getting a PCC stamped from my hometown, the authorities will send my details to the local Mumbai police station in the area where I live to verify my records. That I assume would again make the whole process long. Would you be able to throw some light on this?
