Salam walykom brothers and sister i have this issue too about finding halal meat here in Highdesert CAlifornia, i went to costco i bought there lamb and it has halal tag on it but i dont fully trust its halal meat because it has no tast at all .and from time to time i drive for almost 2 hours to get it in daiman bar from a ibyan borchures so i kept just buying fish and sea food from a store called SEA FOOD CITIES,

Thank you saidhenni to share your experience with the halal meat with us , i found the sea food city today not that far from the place where i live

but honestly i miss eating meat and chicken , the chicken is my favorite sad.png(

Thank you again,

As I was researching further on Zubinah.com...about Costco Halal meats...

the lamb is supplied by Austrailain Lamb Co a halal certified supplier, prepackaged in the Kirkland vacuum sealed packs with halal stamp.

BUT some cuts are are repackaged and this is when it is no longer guaranteed.

Using the same machines and knives as with the pork for repackaging is where it goes wrong.

AQIS only guarantees it high quality and certified halal as long as it is sold in this original package with the stamp.

Here where we live we are still searching also for Halal meats. Thanks for starting this post SARA82, it has been helpful for us gathering info. It looks like we will have to drive down south to find our markets if we are going to find any fresh Halal meats.yes.gif

Thanks Inluv for the interesting information,

We are here to help each other

My husband misses the sardines too. He talks about them all the time.

We were able to buy some canned sardines and tuna (red one) from GELSON'S. They are the kind you would find from Morocco since they are products from Morocco.

I will have to take a pic of them and post next time so you can see what brand they are.

Anyways, good luck! We are in the Los Angeles area too. Every month, we try to eat at a Moroccan restaurant so my husband doesn't get so homesick. The best one so far is La Mamounia in Orange County. We think that place has the best Moroccan food by far. I love the bastilla the best. :)

Every Friday, my husband will drop by the halal market near the mosque and purchase enough lamb for a few tagines and some kabobs. As far as chicken, hamburger meat, steaks, we just buy it at the local store or butcher markets. We have a international grocery store for almost every country you can imagine called Jungle Jim's. It amazing, we take a few hours just shopping there. Moroccan sardines are plentiful there, a variety with just oilive oil, tomato sauce with chili peppers, or just tomato sauce.

As far as eating Moroccan cuisines, we have it at least five nights a week lunch and dinner. I never wanted Mohammed to miss his home cooking, so I learned as much as I could on my visits to Morocco. Every week, he has homemade moroccan bread in the freezer as he needs it. I make lentils and other beans as he loves those for lunch at work, as he is not a big eater during the day. Moroccan tea is a must as we have plenty of mint in the markets here all winter. I also freeze baghir and m'semmen for his breakfast.

Fast food is a no no for Mohammed, as cross pork contamination is right in your face if you pay close attention to those preparing your food. Gloves are worn of course in many fast food places and restaurants, but they don't change their gloves when they pick up bacon and add it to a burger or chicken sandwich, or even those breakfast sandwiches. So sure, if you don't mind cross pork contamination then your good to go, buts it's a no in our home. Mohammed is not one to say.....what I don't know won't hurt.

Hi,

Since i came to USA , 1 month ago, i ate meat and chicken as needed , no pork for sure , forgetting how they slaughter them, as quick as my friend in my home country he reminded me about the way how the HALAL meat should be slaughter, i stopped eating the meat and the chicken (20 days ago), i eat just fish and vegetables waiting to find a Halal place, i did found one islamic store in the city where i live, the -halal- chicken was not fresh (not like in the big supermarket) mixed with non halal chicken in the same queue , no body was there buying any halal meat or any chicken ,i asked the Meat seller where they slaugh the meat and the chicken , he told me they have butchery somewhere, i would like from where you Muslims you buy Halal meat and chicken? is this islamic stores with halal meat and chicken are Trusted ?

what about chicken ?

it is permissible to eat meat from the People of the Book (Ahl-e-Kitaab), i.e. the Jews and Christians

do you eat chicken at McDonalds and other such places in the USA?

Thanks

I became a muslim through marriage and living in America my entire life, let me say, it's difficult. They have halal meat butchers all over the place. There are websites like zabihah, that tell you where halal places are located.

Also, the package stuff that is marked halal, may not truely be halal. They use machines to kill the chicken while someone is praying over it, so it's not authentic halal. And we don't know what parts of the meat is actually going into these process chicken sandwhiches, strips, nuggets.

Um, eating kosher is not halal. Christians don't have a designated food source, I was Christian before I married and I ate everywhere. McDonalds is haram. If you want to eat there, fries and fish sandwhich is your only options. But once again you dont know which oil it is fried in.

I don't really trust package foods - so I buy my meat at the butcher and they halal it infront of you an you cook your own meal. If you go out you can order veggie or fish. But it's your option.

Check out zabihah.com and put in your zip code it will tell you halal places around your area. Including butcher shops, mosque, and food places to eat.

If you are in the High Desert like we are, we go to a little market (al-Arabi) in Lancaster. Off West Ave J and 17th St West. We buy halal beef, lamb, and chicken. We are still also looking for more local places to get it.
