A news anchor for the Russian government-owned television outlet, Russia Today (RT), resigned on air yesterday.

Liz Wahl worked in the Washington, D.C. bureau, and said she no longer could work for “a network that whitewashes the actions of Putin.”

“I'm proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why, after this newscast, I am resigning," she went on to say.

In an interview with the website The Daily Beast, Wahl said she felt “sick” for having worked at RT, adding that she was censured by RT management.

"In order to succeed there you don’t question," she told the website.

According to the RT website, it is “an autonomous non-profit organization,” but it receives its funding from the Kremlin.

The network’s coverage of the Ukraine crisis has portrayed Russian intervention in Crimea as a “stabilizing” force for Ukraine and that Russia was forced to act.

RT issued a statement after Wahl’s resignation, saying:

When a journalist disagrees with the editorial position of his or her organization, the usual course of action is to address those grievances with the editor, and, if they cannot be resolved, to quit like a professional. But when someone makes a big public show of a personal decision, it is nothing more than a self-promotional stunt.

We wish Liz the best of luck on her chosen path.

Earlier this week, another American RT host strongly criticized the Russian foray into Ukraine at the end of her show.

“I can't stress enough how strongly I am against any military intervention in sovereign nations' affairs,” Abby Martin said Monday at the end of her show, Breaking the Set.

Funny, I don't remember any CNN or Faux News drones doing this during the run-up or aftermath of the phony Iraq war, that cost hundreds of thousands of lives. If an RT anchor did this in Russia on the Russian channel I would have respect, but doing this is nothing more than a cheap self-promotion stunt.

Following your thinking fits right in with phony scandals, phony moon landings, and 911 attacks covertly created by George Bush. But, the self-proclamation stunt i agree. Looks good on a resume.

What?????????????!!!!! I meant phony in that there were no WMD's and Saddam had no links to the network of terrorists that attacked America on 11 Sept. 2001. Do you dispute either of these facts?

What parts of the Iraq war did you find most phony?

WMDs we'll probably never know where they were moved. As to links to terrorism, remember that the US wasn't battling individuals after 911, and it didn't end just because Osama Bin Laden was taken out. There is an evil ideology that wants to kill Americans and anyone else who offends them. The Iraqi regime provided fertile ground and safe haven to Islamic wackos. However ill-conceived it was, it was in fact a real war.

It was a pointless exercise. The WMD claim was a lie. Iraq posed no significant threat to the USA or its neighbours.

The war certainly happened, its hundreds of thousands of casualties (which are still accruing) are a testament to that. Also the weapons were never "moved", they had been destroyed after the 1st Gulf War and NEVER rebuilt. The "evil ideology" that wants to kill Americans is in fact a reaction to and product of the "evil ideology" of the military-industrial/security-industrial complex here in America, which has raked in trillions over the years creating and supporting useless war, overthrowing democratically elected governments, proping up brutal dictators, and yes supporting Islamic extremism from Egypt to Bangladesh to Afghanistan to Indonesia and everywhere in between. If we want to go after an "evil ideology" we should start on Wallstreet and with companies like Raytheon and Xe (or whatever Blackwater is calling itself now) that make trillions from killing and inflicting suffering on their fellow human beings.

The fact is that America (and Israel) is (are) the single biggest threat(s) to world peace today, Russia has 100000000000000000x more reason to intervene in Ukraine than the US ever did or does in Iraq, Syria, Ukriane, et al. As Jesus said take care of the moat in thine eye before the splinter in thine brother's.

This from the same CIA that failed to predict the fall of the Soviet Union, despite doing nothing but obsessing over it (and using it as an excuse to crush democracy and butcher millions in Japan, Chile, Iran, Guatemala, El Salvador, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and myriad other countries).

"A commonly belief is that the United States Intelligence Community (IC)

failed to anticipate the collapse of the Soviet Union. Indeed, many of the
U.S. officials who received intelligence about the Soviet Union, its decline
in the late 1970s and 1980s, and its final crises in the 1989–1991 period,
believe to this day that they were not warned—that they were, in effect,
‘‘blindsided.’ "
The fact that the CIA thought there were WMD's there just serves as more proof they never had them in the worst place. When it comes to gathering actual intelligence on America's enemies the CIA ought to be with Bush himself under a Google search for "miserable failure."

You're a dead-ender and pointless talking with someone of your mindset.

Translation: You're using too many pesky facts so I'm going to admit defeat and stop arguing now. Name for me in country which has invaded as many others since the fall of the British Empire as America. Russia with Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Afghanistan, Chechnya, and now Ukraine does not hold a candle to the US with Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Afghanistan, Iraq, or its numerous "dirty wars" in El Salvador, Guatemala, Argentina Indonesia, Bangladesh (worst genocide in the world since the holocaust), Chile, Mexico, Columbia, or the ongoing crimes of Israel against the people of Palestine.

As you sit yourself in front of your Internet communications device slamming America, and those who gave their lives to make it a free nation, and the greatest on earth, you should remember one thing. This country you are free to stay, and where you are free to go. You are free to express your objections, and you are free to walk away. Within the borders of this nation, you have the strength of the US Constitution to stand behind you. I'm also free to wonder just what in the hell you're doing here in the first place, when you harbor such hatred toward it.

I'm sure the NSA (which, of course, is logging and documenting all the meta-data and details of this conversation, to protect our freedom of course) has duly noted your patriotic defense of America and duly put me on terrorist black list which will result in the visa for my wife being denied (such a free country, but if you marry a foreigner and want to see her here in the next 2 years you're SOL!) and eventually in my patriotic elimination in a drone stroke once I leave the borders of the country and thus given up my claims to being a person in the eyes of the patriotic US government, God Bless America, and no where else. /End of the 5-minute hate/

Also, care to clarify how or why overthrowing Moassadegh in Iran to protect private British petroleum investments and then teaching the SAVAK how to pull the fingernails off of anyone who disagreed with the Shah and also to taze their gonads with exposed electrical wires made this country "free" or "the best country on the earth?" K Thanks.
