Hi All!

I just want to ask, what are the chances of getting approved when we get a joint-sponsor if the beneficiary is from the Philippines (Me)? And what are the requirments needed?

We are still waiting for our NOA2 but we want to be prepared ahead of time to avoid delays again.

Thanks in advance!

Co-sponsors are rarely accepted for K-1 visas in the Philippines. Whether one is accepted or not depends on your circumstances, and of course its all up to the CO whether it will be accepted.

Do you know someone who did this?

I wouldn't go so far as to say "a co-sponsor is rarely accepted" but USEM can be difficult for sure, you have a 50/50 chance of a co-sponsor being accepted. I know of a fair number that have done this.

1st- requirement for USEM with the K-1 and co-sponsor is - the co-sponsor must be a relative.

2nd- I suggest along with completing the I-134 for each that the sponsor and co-sponsor also both complete the I-864, and include the most recent tax return and W-2 from the sponsor and co-sponsor.

There is more info in the link below, follow the flashing arrow.

Thanks Hank! That means alot!

His younger brother is in the navy, married with 1 kid. Can we use him as a co-sponsor?

You can, but his income must be adequate to cover himself (the brother), your fiancee (you), and his dependents. See the I-864P for 125% income requirements.

Income is income, doesn't matter where it comes from, money received is income.

I got this response sir:

if you use any means testted benefits then you have to pay them back before you can use them on the I-864, if you used them in the past and are not currently using them that is ok, it will not be an issue, just if you are currently using them.

the VA benefits are not considered means tested.

Means Tested Public Benefits

Federal means tested public benefits are the following:. Food stamps Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Medicaid Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) State Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP

FAQs: Means Tested Public Benefits

Can the applicant use government assistance or public benefits? If the sponsored immigrant uses federal means tested public benefits, the sponsor must repay the cost of the benefits.. http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/support/i-864-frequently-asked-questions.html

Sorry if I'm taking too much of your time.. I really appreciate it.

means tested benefits only come into play once your fiancee is in the USA, and you have filed AOS with the I-864. There is a list somewhere as to what is considered means tested benefits.

No VA benefits are not considered means tested benefits.
