expired dominican republic passport

My mothers passport expired a few months ago, can she travel to dominican republic with an expired passport and get a new one while she is there?

No she cant. An expired passport is useless and not valid for travel.

Go to the local DR consulate and simply renew her passport.

They may ask to see her old passport so make sure she travels with the old passport and new passport as well. The old passport will have the US visa stamp in it.

We are in Louisiana there isnt one here.

FYI: is she from DR airline will allow you to return home if it your country on expired passport (work for them over 15years). But check with the airlines to make sure.

FYI: is she from DR airline will allow you to return home if it your country on expired passport (work for them over 15years). But check with the airlines to make sure.

I highly doubt ANY airline would allow some one to travel with an expired passport that is the reason consulates exist. I really don't think an American Airlines or the TSA would allow expired documents to go through security checkpoints. Regardless of the fact its much easier just to go to the consulate and renew your passport. There's consulates in basically every state for every country a simple google search will help. If there isn't a local consulate then you can contact the nearest consulate and they may allow you to apply by mail. I helped my friends grandmother renew her indian passport and we didn't feel like driving 4 hours to NYC so they have a apply by mail service we used.

From the TSA website ID Requirements

Adult passengers, 18 and over, are required to show a valid U.S. Federal or State-issued photo ID that contains a name, date of birth, gender, expiration date and a tamper-resistant feature. A passenger that refuses to provide any ID and will not cooperate in the identity verification process will not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint
