Indeed.com is also a very good website for job searching. It compiles the postings from many popular job search sites and lists them in one place.

That's what I've been looking at every day, seems to have way more listings than Craigslist & any other site.

Had an interview at a vet clinic on Thursday (which is my field and exactly what I've been looking for!) Have a 'work interview' Monday for 2 hours, hopefully it goes well and I get the job. Unfortunately it means I won't be going home to visit August 2nd - 14th like I had planned, luckily didn't buy a ticket..but was so excited about seeing my friends and family..will have to wait until Christmas if I get it... but I need the job so that's okay.

Yeah, I know, right?! Seems like 4-6 weeks is the standard waiting time for DHS verification (from reading). I received my original SS card in maiden name 4 days after applying, so this baffled me too. Great to hear though you have a positive experience with SSA. :)

As for the job hunting, next topic please! ... :D Yeah, no luck yet. On the verge of probably getting internship or maybe study, if I don't get anything within 3 months. But I am still hopeful. It's frustrating but just like with anything else in this process, we just have to be positive.

You'll get a job soon. Keep on Praying and trying.

I tried to look at indeed, craiglist and some other sites too, but I didn't apply to any of it because I felt like they will receive tons of resumes other than me. What I did was walked in to the place I wanted and asked if they're hiring and they said yes. So I sent my resume by email and got the respond the next day. I think walk in and ask is one of the best way.

keep trying, you'll find a job soon.

Yes that's exactly how I found this job, I just took resumes into all the vet clinics around and this one called me and said they happened to be hiring. So it worked out :)

Ohh, I just received my new SS card in married name after 4 weeks (Changed last name on June 6). Hope you get yours soon as well. :)

Dragonmermaid!! I have just backread and saw your post about your interview. I'm so sorry to know that you had a negative experience with a jerk of an interviewer. Same thought as with Lillyryu, focus on the wedding party for now and get the RFE ball rolling afterwards. I'm sure your family and friends will be able to help in coming up with more relationship proofs such as affidavits and pictures [though the years]. ^_^

Thanks, sweet cake! I just got my new SSN card last Monday. But I have to go back to SSA again cause I just received my green card. Need to remove "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" off of my SSN card again <_<

why does it have to be removed?

why does it have to be removed?

Once you have your green card, you don't need your EAD anymore. So the word "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" doesn't need to be on your SSN card anymore because now you're legal to work in USA. And the USCIS interviewer told me to remove it after I got my green card.

Did you have any luck to find a job?

Nope, not very lucky yet. I am thinking of enrolling in some graduate certificate. Not yet decided though.

How about you? Do I remember it right that you're also an engineer?

Yeah, I'm an engineer, agricultural engineer but looking for a mechanical engineering position. Luckily, I studied in japan for 1 year. And that makes my resume a little bit interesting. So I would recommend you to take japanese class if you still can't find a job. That might help you. Because I just got a phone interview this morning, and they want to interview me in person next Monday. Pretty good sign, right? I think speaking other languages than English would make companies interested.

Hope this would help you get a job soon. Good luck! :)

Hello, my fellow VJers! My husband and I finally got all of our stuff for our interview RFE together and we headed over to the office today to drop it off. When we arrived around 3:35pm, the security staff said that they were closed and there was no one to accept our paperwork (yikes, we could've sworn they closed at 4pm), but they were kind enough to ask who our IO was and they called the office to see if he would come and take our papers! Wow! Talk about a negative thing working out for the best!

So our IO actually came out to accept our papers and he clearly recognized us. He even seemed friendlier this time (now that he wasn't in a hurry to go to lunch!) and we handed our package to him, reminding him to stamp our RFE copy as proof of receipt as he had once advised us. He told us to give them 30 days and we should know whether my husband gets his GC or not.

On one hand, I think it's great that our actual IO received the paperwork as opposed to a random front desk clerk who doesn't know us, but if for some strange reason he just didn't like us, who knows what he'll do?

Honestly, this whole process has left me so numb. I will probably laugh really hard and loud if we get another RFE or a denial, especially now that we were able to include a bunch of photos of our big official wedding with 200 guests! What an insane journey this is.... The security guard at the entrance must've heard my deep sigh because he kindly said, "It'll be over soon. Takes awhile but it gets done."

I'll keep you guys posted either way. Thanks again for all the support. You all really helped me keep it together!
