I got my green card today in the mail. I had my interview on June 18 and I was approved on the spot. I just wanted to share my interview experience for the benefit of those who have upcoming interviews.

We were scheduled for 11 am at Memphis Tennessee. We got there at 10:30 and barely sat in the waiting room and were called in about 10 mins later. The IO asked us who is the petitioner and who is the beneficiary. He then asked for proof of citizenship and when we got married. We told him it had been 7 months since we married. He asked who were the witnesses and said we must not hv much proof coz we are recently married. But we told him we had a joint lease, tax returns, bank account, health insurance etc. He was impressed and said that is a lot of joint documents for newly weds. Apart from the court marriage we had done just the two of us, we had recently done a vow renewal and a small reception with friends and family. We showed him those pics and he said we make a very cute couple. He asked me names of a few guests in the pictures and he asked my husband a few names. Then he asked if we had other pics together and we showed him a whole scrap book of our pics and little notes and stuff. We had pics of us dressed in superhero costumes from an event we went to. He was very amused by it and he started joking from that point on. He asked what we did for a living and then asked me until when my visa was valid. (I was on an F1). Then we asked how we met and he also seemed impressed that I was getting my second masters degree. Then he said I'm going to approve you. You seem like a very genuine couple. I know that coz you didn't touch each other once the whole time. He said he does 400 interviews a week and couples try to hug and kiss and be extra affectionate in front of me and its suspicious. Then he was joking with my husband saying I won't ask you'll any personal questions coz I women have all that covered from what time u woke u to when u used the bathroom but us men we can't remember these things for the live of us. He was like I feel u man and I won't go there. He then began to ask me those mandatory questions about hv I engaged in drug smuggling or been in a communist party etc. Then half way through he stopped and said why am I even bothering... Nice girl, going to school and getting her life straight. You're good. I approve u with the conditional GC coz thats all I can do for now since you'll are married for less than two years. He then printed out the welcome letter and said you will recieve your GC in the mail in 2 to 4 weeks and he explained about lifting the condition and all. He asked if we had any questions and said thank you. You'll have a safe trip home.

Hey Autumn! Did you go back to SSA after you received your EAD/AP card and updated to your new last name? If so, you don't have to go back there now that you received your GC. You can, but it's only optional. Here's a recent thread that I read about it: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/496222-updating-ssn-card-after-ead-issued/

-But if you haven't returned to SSA to update your last name and to update them that you are now work-authorized, then you have to. :)

OMG guys, I can't believe it. Just as I have stopped checking the uscis.gov site everyday, I received an email today that my GC is now in production. It was still in "Acceptance" last night when I checked it before I slept, so I just find it too surreal to read this now:

I didn't receive any date for interview and no notice of potential waiver case either... So deep inside I was really panicking. But today is just too unreal. I still find it hard to believe. I'm actually teary-eyed right now.

Thanks for the support, guys! Hope everyone who are still waiting will hear their good news soon too. Cheers! :)

Congrats! really happy for you :)

Maybe you'll receive the approval letter soon.

anyways, I just got back from the SSA to update my SSN status. The officer reminded me to come back and update my SSN again when I receive my 10 years GC.

btw, I didn't update my SSN status when I received my EAD cuz I got my GC two weeks after I received my EAD, lol
