You guys are so lucky, congrats on getting your GC. Wow! I haven't heard anything from uscis yet. But I don't wanna start sulking about it now, I'll just work hard instead. They can give me my GC next year if they want or as long as my work permit still valid, there will be no prob with me.

Congratulations. Wow, that's really fast. I went to a social security administration on 12th June to change my name on my SSN. It's been 11 days and I haven't got anything TT

I just want my name changed in the system then I'll be able to obtain a learner permit. :crying:

Same here ... DMV said they need the new SS card in my married name. I went to SSA to have it updated on June 6th, no news since. DMV already confirmed that I am in the SAVE database, but without the updated SS card, they won't let me do any tests. Ohhh well .... I am sooooo ready to take the tests too. I think I will forget what I've studied if it takes any longer..

At DMV in Livonia, MI, they let me take the written test and I already passed it. Just need the married name in the system to pass it officially. Also DMV sample test didn't help me at all. If you want to pass you need to study on the handbook. Hope that would help you. Good luck :)

I read the handbook too. But it's an information overload. Thanks ... I read too in some posts that other DMVs allow tests (vision and written) but the learner's permit or DL will be pending for release until the SAVE database verification and SS card in married name arrives. :) So just not sure, if the NJ DMV office that I went to is the only DMV that operates that way.

Hi Autumn. The written/ knowledge test is different for each state. For me, I just googled using search terms "NJ DMV practice test". Can't see which state you're from. :)

Congratulation to all those that have received their GCs already! This thread has been amazing not only just providing valuable information, but more importantly supporting ne another! Great job everyone!!!!

Wanted to updated your guys on my progress.

After I received my EAD, applied for SSN four days later and received it in 3 days.

Then converted my out-of-country driving license, passed all the test on the same day!!!! Got my MD DL!

Now trying to get a job of course!

I'll update after the interview!!!

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

intelligent,

My husband just got issued his MD DL yesterday too using his EAD! Of course that was after 4 days spent at the MVA over the past week and half including a 10 hour day yesterday. It was a difficult task to say the least! We had major issues exchanging his out of country license to a MD one and for some reason they issued him a type 2 learners permit (LP) prior last week. He should have never been issued a LP so I think that we may have paid more than we should have. My question is, how long is your license valid for and how much did you pay for it?

Just want to tell my experience getting my DL here in NC. I received my SSN last week and yesterday I went to the DMV. I also have a out of country DL (for 15 years), but the officer didn't even want to see it. As my legal document now is the EAD, valid for 1 year, I could get only a 1 year DL. I took the eye test, the test on computer and the practical test on the road. I payed $4 and I was good to go with a 20 days permit on my hand to use until the DL arrive on the mail. I probably spend less than one hour at the DMV office and my DL is type C.

I made an attempt to call USCIS yesterday to request a service since my EAD case was pending over 75 days. I finally got someone to help me to put a request in after second call. So today, my EAD card is in production!!!! It was totally worth a call. :dancing:

Now I am waiting for my interview date.
