Hi, I just want to ask, is there anyone of you guys changed SSN name to married name requested by your employer? How did it go? Were you able to changed to married name? The clerk in our local SS office said it was their first time to encounter with case like mine, they said they will wait for USCIS verification.

The biggest lesson I have learned during my AOS process, is that I have got to be patient when it comes to dealing with USCIS. Things fall apart frequently but just got to stay calm and composed.

Good luck on your job hunt. Sometimes it can take a while depending upon your field of work. I am sure you will get one soon.

Thanks!! Hope your good fortune will be contagious to us all here! I have to regain that positive attitude after getting turned down at DMV for my learner's permit application. I was all prepared for my knowledge test, only to be told that the DHS Save database is still not updated with my name even 2 weeks after receiving the EAD. Sigh!!

Hi sis! I have no employer yet, but I did go to SSA after I received my EAD/AP card to update my name to my married name. It's a norm that their response would be "for DHS verification", and I have already expected that. For those who have just recently received their EAD, the SAVE database (under DHS) is still not yet updated. It may take 4-6 weeks for verification. As for my experience, I still haven't received my new SS card yet after 2 weeks from application.

Oh really? I am worried now, I wish my employer will accept that reason and will not kick me out. I just went in today to SS office, I really love them because they just accept me even though they are not familiar about my case unlike other SS offices. Anyways, I'll just hope for the best. Oh about the DMV? I am also reviewing the road rules right now, I think hubby won't teach me how to drive unless I have the driver's permit. So I guess I have to wait for another week then before I could take an exam. Edited by flory120

Relax. That has happened to me so many times. USCIS updates take several weeks to flow through different government systems. It's only a waiting game. I also need to renew my DL, and I hope my records are updated. They probably will give me a temp license.

Yes, but don't be worried. Your SSN is working. It's just not updated with your married name. The reason they're asking this is they have to run every employee's SSN (especially new ones) on E-verify to make sure that they have the proper authorization to work. Otherwise, their business will be audited if they have hired an illegal. From what I read, the employer should give it time for the verification.

Same here. :( The hubby also doesn't want to teach me without the learner's permit. They're quite strict here, he said and he doesn't want to have any bad record too. I have been reading the NJ Driver's manual and doing the practice test online for some time now. Keeps me distracted while job hunting and from getting frustrated in between.

Ohhh, I doubt so... You have your GC now. Your new DL will be valid until the validity of your GC. :)

BTW sis, don't worry, you will get a call soon from the job you have applied for. It may take a week. Me, I've waited 1 week before I got a call for an interview. Take note, I've only got a call from 1 out of 5 hotels I've applied for a job.

Thanks, sis! I need all the encouragement I can get. I have sent my resume to about 10 companies now. Seriously considering jumping on to another field.

Hope you get your updated SS card soon. By the way, SSA gave me a letter after my name change request, noting that my new card is in-process. Maybe you can show your letter to your employer just to appease them.

I'm into engineering and used to teach too part-time back in Philippines. My experience is very specific, that's why I'm having a hard time. Hubby said, maybe I'm just being picky. So maybe trying other fields will be my next resort. For now, I just need some experience and build a network, make new friends, be able to drive myself to places (aside from biking to the supermarket :D), etc ... Sigh! Hope all of us here will be successful in whatever we do. It's hard enough to adjust to married life plus the depression of being far from our family back home.

I am having a hard time finding a job as an engineer as well. So I decided to go back to school getting a masters here. That way I will have experiences related to the US.

Good luck and hope you get a job soon. Also don't forget to write "legally working in USA" on your resume. That will help :)

Thanks for the tip, Lillyryu! I'll definitely add that then to my CV. That's probably the hesitation when they receive a resume from a new immigrant. I have my masters already but I may take another field should it take me longer than expected to get that dream job! Have fun in grad school! :)
