Had my interview today.

Waited for an hour past the actual interview time.

Our Officer was a middle-aged lady who did not seem very happy and when we walked into her office, a person who I assume was her boss told her she was falling behind on cases today.

We have been married for 3 years now and we like to poke fun at each other, I think this made the officer believe we were genuine...

It made me laugh that most couples I saw walking into the offices were holding hands accompanied by their high-powered lawyers.

She asked us the basic questions, when did you get married, how did you meet.

Asked us who our co-sponsor was.

Went through the list of questions they HAVE to ask like, have you ever been convicted of a crime, are you part of a terrorist organization...etc...

She then wanted to take a look at our passports, original birth certificates, marriage certificate.

I gave her additional info paperwork like bank statements, shared credit cards, car loan, but she didn't even look at them.

She said well guys, you seem to be legitimate, at least I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

She said, I will approve you guys immediately.

She handed over a letter with a confirmation letter stating that my case for adjustment of status has been approved.

This was to be my proof of permanent residence.

She then took away my i-94 and EAD card.

We then had some friendly chat with her, thanking her for everything, she then said she had 4 cases this morning and we were the only couple approved :0... wow...

Should get my green card in the mail, no updates on the website yet, don't know if that is normal.

It made me laugh that most couples I saw walking into the offices were holding hands accompanied by their high-powered lawyers.

I saw quite a few too and oddly enough with European clients who I thought could have done this themselves. How much does it cost to take a lawyer to a meeting ?

I'm finding it pleasantly weird that after waits extending to 8months + for my K1 I'm getting a greencard so quickly. Mid March application, bios in April, interview May and GC in my hand 7 working days after the interview (assuming the card makes it from UPS San Francisco up the 101 to us in Marin tomorrow). My EAD will barely have left it's envelope.

Hey guys, This is probably off the topic, but it is related to the AOS process, and I was wordering if you guys could light me up ;)

So I got my EAD card on may 22 and it was issued on may 16. The first thing I did was to apply for my SSN the very next day. When they received my application, they gave me a letter saying that they were going to have to verify my documents so they could assign a SSN for me because my status was not updated by the DHS. it also said that such verification could take around 4 WEEKS!

I went to the SSA office agan today, and the same guy who processed my application said that my application was still pending and not verified and that I should have waited two weeks after I got my EAD to apply for my SSN and I could have had my number right away (He didnt tell me that when I first brought my application - I felt like yelling at him). After that, of course he said that theres nothing I could do but to wait for the verification process to end and then to wait for my card.

My questions are:

Is there anything I can do to try to get my number faster that those ridiculous 4 weeks?

Should I contact the USCIS since that guy said that my status hasnt been updated after I got my EAD?

The company who gave me this job offer over a month ago needs my SSN to process my background check. I was never aware that this delay could happen as many of the people here get their numbers right away. I am so desperate now...

Thank you.

Hi,

Just wondering if you got an update about your SSN already? We're on the same boat. I went to the SSA office today and was told the same thing. I was given a letter stating that verification could take 4 weeks. I too have a job offer pending and they need my SSN asap. Can't quite escape life's red tape, this is so ridiculous. <_<

Call the local office number listed on the letter the gave you everyday and have the person on the ph to verify your status. Once your told you have been verified, go back to that office and get a printout of your ssn.

The person at the window most likely tell you that your not allowed to get a printout and you need to wait for the card in the mail. If that's the case ask immediately to talk to a supervisor and then you'll get the number. That's what I had to do and got my number yesterday and my driving license today. Let me know how it goes and don't let them give you bullsh*t

I had my EAD card for all of 3 days before it was taken away... lol

That IS pretty funny! My husband got his on May 19th and will have had it for only 6 weeks if all goes well and he is asked to turn it in at our AOS interview on July 1st (I hope, I hope, I HOPE)!

We're scrambling trying to get his and his son's original birth certificates from the Netherlands in time. His daughter is from Indonesia and I don't know we'll be able to get an original birth certificate for her in time since it took us YEARS to get his divorce decree. I am frustrated that the USCIS is even asking for their original BCs because we have not applied for his kids to come to the U.S. because their mothers will not allow it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will get lucky and my IO won't even ask for them. I have read some interview experiences that were easy peasy and I'm praying that luck carries over! :content:
