Spouse Visa - Situation Analysis

Hi All,

This is my first post on the forum. I am an international student from France and my girlfriend and I want to get married at the city hall this month in Seattle. I graduate in May from my school in Boston and have a 60 days grace period to stay in the US after graduation before I am considered "illegal". I am hoping to get the EAD as soon as possible to be able to stay in the US and start working while waiting for the interview.

My girlfriend is from Seattle and we have been together for 6 months. I was doing an internship there and we lived together and now we are doing long distance from Boston to Seattle and are seeing each other pretty much twice a month. She has only had an active job for a year and works on commission, so I was wondering if that would be a problem for the financial form? We don't really want to involve one of her or my family member either unless absolutely necessary.

We are seeing an immigration lawyer tomorrow, but would rather do it all ourselves. I would appreciate all feedbacks/advice on our situation and will welcome any tips

If she makes less than the amount requested for your household, you'll need a co-sponsor. Household size is calculated as you two+however many other dependents she has. The co-sponsor can be any US citizen or legal permanent resident, doesn't have to be a family member. Good luck!

Your girlfriend will still need to fill AOS and provide financial evidence (Tax returns) for the last year. It is advised that you find a co-sponsor.
