Hello everyone!

I am preparing all my documents to file for the petition for fiance.

Questions

1. Should we put the same date on the letter? or hers would be date earlier than mine? I am currently in Manila with her and be flying to California to file for the petition. Should it be close to the date that I will mail the forms?

2. Is there an I-129F form that I can edit or does it have to be handwritten?

3. I know I am supposed to use blank ink for handwritten documents, what about for signatures? I read somewhere to use blue pen.

4. For photos, is it ok to copy like 5 photos in a word document and print it in color or do I have to print all the photos and glue it to a bond paper?

Thanks!

  1. It doesn't have to. My letter intent of marry dated earlier than my fiance and he dated his 2 days before filed the petition. We were fine, got approved in 38 days without any RFE.
  2. I don't understand your statement about the form you can edit. They have I-129F form and all you need is just type all the information that you need to provide or you can use handwritten. Whatever that is okay with you.
  3. We used blue ink since I read here that some people got an RFE because the adjudicator thought it wasn't original. But some others did not have a problem with black ink.
  4. I printed 10 photos using Shutterfly service and sent them to my fiance to put together with other documents before it sent off. We did not put on word documents nor glue those. The US embassy gave back to me after my visa was approved.

Are you using Adobe Reader to open/view the I-129F form?

It may not be the problem, but for what it is worth, my partner couldn't add text to his form because he mistakenly used a non-adobe PDF viewer to open it.

I printed my photos on photo paper, Bought it at a dollar store. I had no problem. Just make sure you write your name and fiance name and where photo was taken and date.

as for the filling the 129f it is easier to do on computer cause you can make corrections. The letters of intent can have different dates, hope this helped. good luck

Hi, bambastic!

My husband also filed an I-129F shortly after receiving NOA1 for I-130. We intend to use the I-129F for my K-3 visa application; however, upon reading reviews/threads here, it is likely that we will go the CR-1 visa application route. Anyway, to answer your questions, allow me to share our personal experiences:

1. I think it would be best to write the letter of intent about the same time you are going to mail your I-129F packet. After all, you will have supporting documents (i.e., photos, chat communications, etc.) to serve as proof of your legitimate relationship prior to the wedding.

2. You should be able to download the I-129F form here: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf. It is editable, or at least it automatically saves a copy in Mac in order to fill in the blanks. That is if you want to complete the form electronically. Handwritten forms are acceptable, too, provided your penmanship is legible, so they won't have a problem reading the information in your form. My husband filled out the form electronically, had it printed (best quality option), then affixed his signature. He used a black gel pen for this.

3. You will also find guidelines/instructions re: filling out form I-129F here: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf

How To Fill Out Form I-129F?

  1. Type or print legibly in blank ink.
  2. If extra space is needed to complete any item, attach a continuation sheet, write your name and Alien Registration Number (A-Number) (if any), at the top of each paper, indicate the Part and Item Number to which your answer refers, and date and sign each sheet.
  3. Answer all queries fully and accurately. If an item is not applicable or the answer is "none," leave the space blank.
  4. The answers to Item Numbers 15.e., 15.f., 15.g., and 15.h. should be in reference to the passport or travel document used at the last entry into the United States.

4. For the photos, for as long as they are clear and big enough (perhaps 3"x5") to identify your face, I think these should be fine when printed in photo paper/plain paper.

I hope these help!

Cheers,

Jae

Hello everyone!

I am preparing all my documents to file for the petition for fiance.

Questions

1. Should we put the same date on the letter? or hers would be date earlier than mine? I am currently in Manila with her and be flying to California to file for the petition. Should it be close to the date that I will mail the forms? Dates do not need to be the same

2. Is there an I-129F form that I can edit or does it have to be handwritten? The form and instructions are online, simply need Adobe reader to complete on your computer. http://www.uscis.gov/i-129f

3. I know I am supposed to use blank ink for handwritten documents, what about for signatures? I read somewhere to use blue pen. Some say it matters, I used black ink for everything.

4. For photos, is it ok to copy like 5 photos in a word document and print it in color or do I have to print all the photos and glue it to a bond paper? We printed pictures on bond paper, no issue. Don't need tons of photos 4-6 is more than enough.

Thanks!

1. The dates really don't matter. It doesn't matter if the letters are a couple months old. What matters is the letter indicates your intent to marry and is signed.

2. The I-129F forms available on the USCIS website are all PDF's which are able to be filled out. You can also print them out and handwrite the information.

3. It does not matter what color ink you use, black or blue. I have signed with black ink in the past and have had no problems.

4. You can submit your photos in any way you want to. You can have them printed out on photo paper, you can paste them into a word document and print them out on regular paper, you can glue them to bond paper, whichever method you feel is best.

Thank you for answering, appreciate it! kicking.gif

If you could not edit the form, you need to find a different program to open the PDF.
