06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

What I like and what I can afford are two different things.

I like Dodge Vipers, Magnums, and Volvo XC90s.

I meant in terms that is practical and you could afford. Lol. I would stay away from volvo at the moment as they have changed hands rather frequently and finding parts may be a bit of an enterprise.

May I suggest a mazda cx7 or cx9?

Well, we've had a few Volvos and no complaints, they are an incredibly popular car in Connecticut. Although ours have always been made in Sweden, which could be the difference. My main problem with Volvos is actually that my husband and I find them very uncomfortable to drive.

Terrible as it sounds, I think all the cars in our price point suck and I'm not enthusiastic about used cars where we are buying due to people being a lot less wealthy (and maybe not keeping up on maintenance) and the incredible amount of road salt.

I don't think they make the CX7 anymore and the CX5 in an AWD is more than I want to spend base. I'd like to spend only 19k on a new car and max it out at 25k for an AWD with a higher chassis. I can get an AWD Impreza for about 19500, I think. That is about what we priced out for a FWD Chevy Cruze or Ford Focus. I'm planning on for only a few years, 1h30 of non-highway driving to school and back.

The limiting factor might actually be what my husband can comfortably fit into.

Huh? I didn't think there was a model as such. However, we have an extended cab Silverado 1500 4WD so we don't need another truck.
