ahh, insurance. :( if today's the last day for open enrollment, and i'm not in the US, then when i do get there and jonas wants to add me to his policy, does that mean we won't be eligible for the subsidy anymore?

he earns less than 400% of the poverty level so the credit we would get by enrolling now means the price for 2 is actually lower than the price for 1 on the marketplace. but without the subsidy...i think i'd rather just pay the fine. i've got singapore insurance that covers most of the major stuff while abroad paid up till october so i'm not too worried about accidents/falling seriously ill. would be nice to have access to a primary care physician for the minor stuff though.

I know...hubs applied but he says that the website does not work and he tried a couple of times.

you have a point. I got the account login and phone number and I will call them monday morning. he gets frustrated real easy with this stuff and doesnt care enough to be persistent. *fingers crossed I get it done*

We had to call maybe 3 times to get it right. The exchange site is not good for changes and LPRs.

deadline is 31st of March. Gonna wait till they are all out of the house.

sidenote: he doesnt want to do it now, he is annoyed (for whatever reason) and I need his info.

Just do it without him.

You don't have to pay the fine....

I'm trying to tell you guys....

For a green card holder, health care is optional....

(am I right? I'm sure I'm right...)

I'm not telling you to go without insurance. I'm saying there's no penalty....

Yeah, no penalty (this year?), but some of us aren't interested in being bankrupted by a hospital stay either.

I am glad we can get it cheaper than normal. There is a lady at my work and half of her pay check goes towards health insurance. Not sure how she lives off the rest unless her husband has a good retirement (which considering he was high up in the GM staff, I think he does.)

Mmmmm soda bread.

You can get it and cancel it when you get work insurance. I believe a new job and moving is a qualifying life event.
