Foreign Inheritance taxes?

I have no clue if this is where I am supposed to write about this, but here we go. lol

My foreign husband's father passed away at the end of last year and we are now starting to finalize the estate and his property. My husband is an only child and all of the inheritance will be coming to him.

My question is, what needs to happen in regards to informing the IRS etc about the income? Will we have to pay taxes to the US for his father's foreign estate and the income we will get from the estate and selling his property? I really have no idea who we all need to tell in the US and what has to happen here.

What forms will we have to fill out? Has anyone gone through this recently? I thought I read that you will be taxed if the estate is over $5 million, which his is not.

Thanks everyone :)

He will pay tax in the UK.

The US does not have a federal inheritance tax. There is a federal estate tax.

The father would only have a US estate tax if any of the following is true; 1. He's a US citizen or LPR with a net worth over $5.3 million. 2. He has US real estate.

If he is not a USC, LPR, or own US real estate, he is unlikely to owe a US estate tax.

I also have a question about foreign inheritance... we recently received a lump sum of $30,000 from my husbands family in germany as his mother just passed away. It was transferred to our bank account here in the USA. How do we show where it came from, or what do we need to do in terms of paper work for our taxes etc? We do not need to pay tax on this in the USA, as it was already taxed in Germany correct? Thank you all for your help and answers!
