Hello Everybody,

My I-485 interview is on March 12 and my start date of job is held till March 28. I need approval before March 28 as the job needs my US person status. My district congressman office have been helpful to expedite my EAD card process previously. This time they said they would contact USCIS explaining the urgency of my employment issue to make a decision before March 28.

Any possibility - it will backfire ?

Or USCIS will take care of it ?

A congressman or senator's office cannot force USCIS to make a decision one way or another.

Hopefully USCIS will make a prompt decision, and your congressman can certainly make a representation your behalf, but they cannot compel USCIS to make a decision in the time frame you require.

Forcing or compelling is not what they are also going to do.

They will just ask USCIS to make a prompt decision after sharp examination.

I am quite OK if USCIS find anything wrong and review it sharply.

But it is not OK if they toss my file on the table reluctantly - "Will see it later , not for the time being".

My job is about Aviation issue. Strictly export controlled engineering position.

Ah that explains it then.

I would wait for the interview and see if you get approved, then see if you even need to expedite it.

Dear MSSERAZ:

I am guessing you had some encounter with your congressman/senator in the past but know this; USCIS runs on its own way. Twisting or bending arms rarely works and may work negatively at times. Won't bring exceptions as example. Senators and congressman has no jurisdiction over USCIS and the only thing your representative may do is find the current status. Whatever your need are, are personal and on no way compelling to USCIS. So why would they break rules and expedite your application? You are saying if USCIS finds anything wrong if they would react promptly, who are you kidding? Most of us know that USCIS will take their own time Nd will do it in the usual process. Whether you engage your congressman or not, I don't think they can do much either.

But you can still give it a shot. May be it will work for you.. However if you do, can you post your experience is others may know what they can expect in similar situation....

Good luck

It depends upon the congress person, ours would take 2-6 weeks just to consider the request (not surprising given who she is but I won't go there) but if you do get to a competent Immigration Liaison Staffer then it can definitely expedite the process by getting your file looked at by USCIS and effectively jumping the queue, in this case the OP is asking for something that hasn't even happened yet to be expedited so it could well cause the IO to be spiteful.

I agree about everything you said.

That's why being interested to give a shot.

In fact congressman office itself proposed me to wait till interview and they will make communication with USCIS regarding the post interview process.

Explaining my situation is gonna be a part of that communication.

Certainly CM office is not gonna bend it, neither me.

And I will share my experience surely.

Getting my file looked at and effectively jumping the queue - this is all about my asking.

And 'IO to be spiteful' - here is my fear of backfire.

But if nothing found wrong , and I am asking for decision after the interview - hope things would be ok.

In all likelihood this will be a moot point anyway as I'm sure you have all your ducks in a row for the interview so you will likely be approved that day.

Yes , all ducks are in row, easy to shoot , easy to count , easy to scan.

Thanks for your wish.

If your ducks are in a row, you should have no trouble getting a prompt decision on your case.

March 28 start date is going to be pretty close for getting the actual card in hand though. You can take a look a my timeline in my signature. I was approved and told that I'm officially a resident at then end of my interview and my card arrived in the mail just under 2 weeks later.

Hope everything goes without a hitch for you. Good luck!
