could the looming Russian Visa restrictions effect me?

I am currently in the process of filing a K-1 Visa for my fiancé in Magadan, Russia. The USCIS has just received my petition, and I am very worried. Could these possible, "Visa restrictions" placed on Russia by America affect the approval of my fiancé's approval to come to America? I am curious as to if it would just be a business related visa restriction, or a complete visa ban. Any information you have would be much more than I have received from the USCIS. I appreciate your time.

I think we will be fine with K1/K3 types of visas. The types that are publicized are the high profile diplomatic, or business level visas. Of course I could be wrong, but I should know by the 21st as that will be my fiancé's interview.

Thanks for the input. I guess all you can ever do, is to hope for the best in these types of situations. It seems the evidence points more towards a political visa ban than for the general public. I recently read 20 political figures of Ukraine have already received said visa ban. I am not sure if my interpretation is more selective due to the nature of my status, but we are sure to know soon I am sure.

I think there'd be a better chance of it affecting you if she was a politician of some sort. Is she?

I would be absolutely shocked if a family visa ban were put in place. I'm not sure what I would do at that point. Has that EVER been done? Not that I know of.

But considering that North Koreans and Cubans and Iranians and anywhere else the US government has decided to be upset with can get married to an American and get a visa, then this should be no different.

Well said, and thank you domwardbound. That really does make sense, and puts me at ease. I guess if they were to ban all visas, it would be more like the Iron Curtain days...and I don't see this being the case. At least not any time soon.

It shouldn't affect family visas as that is more of a punishment to US citizens than to Russia. They do not want to punish US citizens. If citizens of countries with which the US has no diplomatic relations with and has sanctions against (like Iran) can get family visas, then there should be no reason that Russian citizens won't be able to.

I'm having this same concern... :( we just got our noa2 last week and our hopes are so high now. It would suck so bad if the visa ban was for citizens a well...

I would stop worrying, the visa ban that is currently in place is only for people involved with the Ukraine-Russian debacle that Is currently going on.

I have a really hard time seeing them ever placing a full ban on any and all visas from Russia. That would take place only during a full scale war between the two countries. Even then I would think that the US would offer refugee to Russian citizens in family relation to American citizens.

This whole thing will probably end soon. Sure the relations between the US and RU will not be good but a complete ban on all visas is unrealistic.
