I thought this years movies were all pretty good. Only ones I did not see that were nominated for awards was Nebraska, Her & Philomina - which are all on my list of movies to watch in the coming weeks.

12 years a slave was a very powerful movie and overall great performances by Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o. I thought Fassbender did a great job in portraying the pure cruelty of that character on screen and I would have picked him over Jared Leto for best supporting actor. Not taking anything away from Dallas Buyers Club, which was a good movie also. I think Matthew McConaughey was deserving of best actor - talk about commitment to ones job, look at all the weight he loss for that role.

I like the tech work behind Gravity. How it was filmed was pretty cool and def. well deserved for the awards that it received. Gravity totally surprised me - it was a much better film than I had expected going into it.

I guess the big disappointment was American Hustle but I think they won some Golden Globe awards. It was a good movie and I thought Christian Bale and Amy Adams put on great performances. I think it would have taken in more awards if the playing field was weaker.

As far as the documentary category, it was nominated but did not win, I would recommend checking out a movie called The Act of Killing. It deals with the communist purge in Indonesia in the mid 1960s. A subject that until I saw the movie I was not aware of but half a million people were killed including ethnic Chinese. The documentary is about some of the leaders of a death squad who are making a movie to re-enact their crimes to the theme of their favorite Western movies. Yeah it's F'in twisted considering these aren't actors but the original death squad leaders. They are celebrated as heroes there today when truthfully they are war criminals imo.

Meryl Streep. She should not need to be nominated. She should always have an Oscar with her name on it and should get it just for showing up.

I watched the Oscars last night, but I did not see any of the nominated movies. In fact I did not see any movies the last year or two. I just watched the show to see what Ellen would do.

I called the AMPAS and they said they do not understand why you state the movie won because of white guilty and then deferred the explanation to them. It might behoove you to qualify your statement.
